Title: ATX max power draw considerations
Post by: mackminer on February 04, 2012, 09:01:20 PM
Hi guys,
Considering the max power draw from the ATX connector is 150 watts and each pci-e is 75 watts I wonder if it's safe to run two cards?

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

2 cards -> no problem

3 -> I don't know

4 ->  Some have problem with the ATX power connector, burnt and melted. Must use pci-e extender with molex power connector

Or you can use expensive main boards which have additional power connector (Molex or EPS); usually gaming boards. But I think they're not worth

So far haven't heard of problems with < 4 single GPU or 3 dual GPU cards, and considering 2 single cards is a normal SLI/Xfire setup, I'd think we'd see plenty complaining in gamer forums if it'd cause problems.
