Title: Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF Needs Ticker
Post by: knightcoin on May 27, 2014, 11:12:02 PM
what should the ticker be?

The famous twins might be tempted to pick a vanity ticker like WINK, VOSS, or even TWIN. However, TWIN is taken and WINK exists on the London stock exchange (for Winkworth). And does anyone really want to see VOSS?

Another avenue of possibility open to the Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF is tapping into the digital currency theme with something like BIT, COIN, CRYP, or MATH. However, all of those tickers are already being used.

The ticket should be VOSS , or some word related to bitcoin, anyway besides of that, who else think that the bitcoin price will skyrocket after the fund gets aproved by the nasdaq comission?

Either WANK or FAP could be really clever.  After all bitcoin is one big circle jerk.

I laughed harder than I should have at this...

I think something BTC related should be in the ticker though. If it's something about those losers, then I'll just be annoyed by the whole thing. They didn't really do anything special but make a readily available currency a little more readily available to investors... They didn't have anything to do with the currency itself.

They are massively promoting bitcoin doing that, also they will buy 1 bitcoin for every 4 shares purchased on that fund.

I am reading a book about trading ETF's the author talks about

Quote
ETF offerings on the
market now include currency, commodity, fixed-income, inversely correlated “short ETFs,” leveraged ETFs, and even ETFs that are both inversely correlated and leveraged. There are also ETNs (exchange-traded notes), which are structured as financial instruments, similar to bonds but possessing credit risk.

I wondering what would be an "inversely correlated" ETF to bitcoin ... since regulators have been struggled to define what the hack bitcoin is ...  ::) ???

VOSS.

Bitcoin needs credibility.  What kind of impression do we want to give Wall Street? Do we want them to compare Bitcoin to Dogecoin?

When I went to check whether the names are available (they are so these win btw). I found a small OTC stock called Bitcoin Shop Inc. (Ticket: BTCS, market cap < $15M). I didn't know any pure "Bitcoin company" was publically traded already :P

I know I've been caught in such situations myself. I still hold BBRY (previously RIMM). The company stinks now (I overestimated the durability of their moat), but it's worth more than the crappy price it's trading for.

On the 23 of June, 2011 a secret five hour meeting took place between WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange, who was under house arrest in rural UK at the time and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

What ultimately matters is if a bitcoin ETF eventually starts trading on a stock exchange or not.

Once it starts trading on a stock exchange then trading volume will surge.

Don't the majority of stocks (and ETFs) trade on the NASDAQ? Even if a stock primarily trades on an other exchange it will often (always?) trade on several other exchanges. I think the only exception to this rule are stocks that are not listed on the NYSE as I think the NYSE only trades stocks that are listed there, although ARCA (owned by the NYSE) trades stocks that are listed elsewhere.

Might be a regulatory challenge to list it anywhere but the NASDAQ for now.

So are we talking about the index (Winkdex) or the ETF (COIN) here? I mean, COIN is a pretty catchy and smart move, I guess. Winkdex on the other hand sounds a tad silly, in my opinion. But yeah, maybe that gets people to talk about it :D
