Post by: cuddaloreappu on May 30, 2014, 05:04:48 PM
Do you know anybody , your friends, cousins who were early adopters and got millionaire rich of the 2013 bitcoin bubble..

What toys have they bought? sports cars or what?

Okay if you yourself is an early adopter and a millionaire, share  some things abut how your life is changed now and what things have you bought and how you enjoy your life?

1. 2013 was not a bubble (I'm considering Willy report too). It'll be proved in the long run.

2. Millionaires dont always spend to show off. Some of them believe in Warren Buffet - "Spend only when your savings is done".

Smart millionaires keep their mouths shut and their purchases private. If I hear someone bragging about money, it is typically because they wish they were rich. IMHO.

Not all the time. Some people just overcompensate and think that money = success and they need to let everyone know how "successful" they are, but a lot of people also do brag about money they don't have for this exact reason.

You're also forgetting the fact that many wouldn't because it would immediately make them a target.

I met a couple really big bitcoin millionaires and they were cool, they were normal people. You probably couldn't tell they were millionaires to be honest. One guy told me, he said he still goes to work every day at the same job he just treats it as a hobby and doesn't get too stressed out.

those that brag about their riches are usually naive people that are not used to being wealthy. and usually find in 20 years time their riches would have evaporated..

thos smart enough to have always been wealthy and increase their wealth would not brag about it, nor tell anyone how to also bcome wealthy (avoid future competition), plus as lethn said avoid unwanted attention from scammers.

i have seen too many polls asking for how much people have and what client programs they us etc, all part of th schme for people to target the rich. so dont pretend it doesnt happen.

people like warren buffet will tell people not to buy things, so that he can buy cheaply without competition. then when h is ready to sell, he will tell people to buy so that he can sell without causing a price drop.

you will find the rich and wealthy people tell you the opposite to what you want to hear.

That's a good way to handle it I think. I'd like to think I'd do something similar, but I would like to travel a lot though. Some people go crazy when they come into money quickly and it goes straight to their head. I find it really obnoxious when people brag about their wealth. Meekness is such a virtue with wealth.

Nobody currently hold one million Bitcoins. Anyway, I've met a Fiat millionaire, but not a Bitcoin millionaire. I think they'd want to stay hidden for security reasons.

I think they'll be living like average civilians, so they won't spend all of their wealth.

My daughter.  She got me into bitcoin mining in early 2011.  We made a lot of money together.  I paid off her student loans with it.  I bought a snowblower with bitcoins. Otherwise we are just holding out for the second million dollars.

I also paid a lot of taxes on the coins I sold for dollars.

I wish I could remember the name but their is a documentary about lottery winners and how most of them end up being poorer than they started off with.

I think most richer people in the community just feel lucky to be able to do whatever they want now, like build bitcoin applications ;) Yes we all want the ferrari, luxury boat and the super model girlfriend (I am still working all three) but in life what is that give you, 3 seconds of pleasure maybe.

I'm sure he would not want me to say his name. But I can think of someone who's mine I have visited. At the time BTC were maybe a few bucks, and he was holding something like 30,000BTC. I think he now lives in a secret compound on the moon.
I guess a true BTC millionaire would have a million bitcoins. I don't know anyone like that.

Let's assume that the person got rich from Bitcoin, having previously lived a modest lifestyle. People would surely start to notice the new car, house, whatever. Would take a lifetime to launder otherwise, literally.

That's harsh. Are you suggesting that Mr Tea doesn't pay his taxes generally, or capital gains (or similar)?

It depends on which county Mr Tea is in, and how much money he is talking - there may be no tax.

No millionaire here, but I bought 500 BTC with a cost basis of just over $12K. I sold 90 at $900 and used the proceeds to buy a 2014 Corvette. The balance I  am holding because I have a $50K price target within 10 years. BTC will really take off after the collapse of the international monetary system. This collapse is almost inevitable at this point.

The catalyst for this collapse is the Fed's efforts to devalue the dollar. BTC has many advantages over gold and it is such a thinly traded market that enormous price increases will result. So I am either going to be worth $20MM or worst case I got a corvette for $12,000.

Haha, very simple but amusing website. Debatable too as many people consider a Bitcoin Millionaire as holding 1 million BTC, rather than 1 million local currency in BTC :P

Bitcoin secures anonymity. Some people break the barriers, and 'steal' coins. Late 2011 is a example, when thieves took off with a lump sum of coins. If a idiot is stupid enough to move a lot of coins at once, on a online wallet, you can't get those back. And don't expect the police to help you, like they'd do to a fiat millionaire.

And no, it depends on how you word it. Saying 'Bitcoin millionaire' means 'Bitcoin millionaire'. Would you say 'Peso millionaire', or 'Dung millionaire' and mean USD, GBP, or a Euro?

It is very different going from not having enough money to consistently eat and being a paycheque away from being unable to afford rent to having 7-figure fiat balances, and almost all your day to day life problems more or less solved almost overnight.  Absolutely surreal.  And for those reading this thread: the price peaked > ~4096$usd/btc at kraken.  That means a lot of people were, at least momentarily, millionaires, and if they sold...could have bought in again at 350$ and be doing quite well for themselves.  I quit my shitty job and haven't looked back, and now don't really fit in with working people(they have shop to talk about...I just don't), don't really fit in with wealthy people(I really don't give a flying fuck about status symbols and would be perfectly fine eating KD with weiners every day), don't really fit in with retired people(I'm too young to really have much in common with them)...

You have to specify the currency then - Euros, dollars, Yuan, Yen, pounds, Zimbabwean dollars etc.

e.g. One million Yen is about $10,000 today, iirc.

The documentary also showed how some ppl who bought and saved a lot of coins but lost their keys/wallets and lost millions of dollars worth bitcoins,

It is probably not a good idea to advertise the fact that you have a million dollars (worth of bitcoin or in cash/in the bank).

Doing so would make yourself a target for hackers.

To answer the OPs original question, yes I have an acquaintance who is a bitcoin millionaire, he still lives a very modest lifestyle.

Quite the contrary. At the time, it was a good deal and it bought the BTC community a lot of physical world publiscity. BTC would not be as widely known today if it wasn't for that infamous pizza purchase.

Has anyone done a follow up article on the shop that accepted the coins? 10KBTC @ $500 now that's a story!

It was not a shop that accepted the coins it was a person on these forums that traded the coins and called the pizza shop and gave them his credit card number.

I think he was actually in England when he called but I may be mistaken about this.

The problem in being a $Fiat millionaire w/ Bitcoin is you are indistinguishable from all the 'paper millionaires' these days.  Any boozoo these days can get a leased BMW from the bank and people can max out their mortgages to get a McMansion.   Who are you going to impress if the Jones' will take debt to look wealthier than you and Bob down the street is none the wiser?

You need 1795BTC to be a Bitcoin millionnaire if it means holding 1,000,000USD in bitcoins
At the ATH you needed 833BTC

I have never conscientiously met a Bitcoin millionaire yet

I've personally seen how it changed a normal guy who had average wage into an absolute dick hole after he got mega  rich from bitcoin.
funny thing is that he's lost ALOT of it.. its like when people win lottery. they have no budget/self control so they tend to lose it all.
this dick hole thought his $$ would buy him friends and hot girls... he has 0 friends still and has to pay to get laid... quite comical if u ask me :)

the funniest thing is he showed pics of the girl he paid to fuck and she was like  5 outa 10... but hey.. he's happy.. so  thats all that matters.

He may better himself, let's hope he does and that the bitcoins he has left will raise tremendously in value ;D

Money got easily if you didn't struggle or learn how to deal with money will often be spent stupidly

The article is interesting : "throwaway-69857457 has in part motivated me to chime in. I'm also probably what others would call an early adopter. I bought the bulk of my coins when they were still a few cents each."

but it doesn't validate as "seen" though  ;)

I wonder why some people just keep sitting on their hands after s.o. conned 'em out of $1.6M?

Meh that's a platitude I think. There's a bell curve of financial savvy, which probably correlates strongly with IQ. The means a person used to get rich has nothing to do with their ability to stay rich.

No you won't because losing 1.6m and being frustrated doesn't justify to kill an other human being, to go to jail and suffer way more
