Title: Just a question about begging [Lending section]
Post by: mezmerizer9 on May 31, 2014, 03:15:46 PM
Is begging here allowed?  I mean, can someone ask for a small sum of btc with nothing in return?

Absolutely not.

If you want to be bombarded with insults and negative trust, go ahead.

Such topics are reported to the moderators, and can get you banned.

Begging isn't allowed. There's a mod on here especially hard on it. If you beg, no doubt, he'll woof you out.

What makes you so special?  ::)  We were all new once, get used to it :P
If you need some fee btc, you can visit some gambling sites, most have giveaways/special offers/rain (from players or admins).

Good Luck.  Please, no begging here ;)

Or you can waste your time collecting dust from faucets. As monbux and other said, begging isn't allowed here, go to IRC or reddit.

We could have a subforum for newbies beggars, where liars could tell their stories and people would laugh out. It could be fun and, who knows, maybe sometimes one would get lucky and receive some satoshies from me (don't even think about PM me begging).

If you're desperately looking for free coins then you're best bet would be to check out the Games/Rounds sub here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=71.0

As stated, any begging spam located in this sub will be deleted and reported - so don't do it.

Go to landofbitcoin.com and use the faucets there. Great for getting some initial BTC and no begging needed

That would be extremely annoying very quickly.

You wouldn't have to go in there. I'm sure it would be humorous but it'd just be a mess of mostly trollers trolling trolls.

Of course it would be fun. And, as said, no one would have to read.

On a more serious perspective, isn't charity a Christian duty? Can we rule out that some of the beggars might deserve help? Why can't a NGO come to the forum and ask for donations?

This forum is a free space. Why one of the most basic human act, asking for help, has to be prohibited? In many states there is indeed a prohibition of begging. Should that be the model?

Begging is probably almost universally frowned upon, and on here it's just synonymous with 'scam' really. They're just trying to trick/guilt you into giving them money 99% of the time. With that being said, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a new sub being created and begging threads being moved into their own section, but it would be troll/spam central and unconstructive and unnecessary really. I think it's best to just keep with the current rules tbh.

TBH I don't care all that much about it, I'm sure there are plenty of folks who legitimately just need a little help and would be okay if they got it, and I wouldn't mind helping them out myself. Karma and all that.

But there's so little effort needed to do it, that if we didn't remove them the forum would be flooded with it.

If the forum prohibits something because of all the scams, it should also prohibit trading, at least for newbies, for the same reason.

I don't think there would be that much beggars. They would see fast that it wouldn't be worthy. Only people presenting evidence of their situation or old members of the forum could have some luck.

Anyway, the forum would have something to earn with more traffic.

Scam or not doesn't really factor into it. And you're wrong, there would be a lot if we weren't actively removing it, but you can't see any of that so I don't blame you for thinking that.

How would it not be worthy when accounts are so easy to acquire?

And I think we'll be okay without the extra traffic that would be gained.

Alright, Theymos and you rule the forum, I just presented my points.
