The above PM (with my reply) was just sent to me by Joshua Zipkin of AMT (Advanced Mining Technology, or Technologies, depending on what day it is).

I assume I have to take his threat seriously, given that Josh Zipkin is on record in stating that he's not a liar.

Serious question, folks: Should I notify the authorities?

You're exaggerating again. He's not threatening to kill you. He's only threatening to break your arms and/or fingers.

Either I didn't read it that way, or killing somebody would accomplish the same thing, i.e.typing anything at all wont be something you'll be able do anymore, and that's not a threat.

But, for sake of argument, isn't breaking somebody's bones considered a threat?

Killing someone is an awful lot of effort to go to just to stop them from typing. Breaking bones is much easier.

I STILL think you should notify the police. Threats are threats, and if something does happen to you, and he's already in their system for threatening you; he'll be the prime suspect immediately.

Exactly, inquiring minds want to know.

He's practically asking you to send him to jail.  Do it, report him.  Worst case scenario could be that he makes good on his promise; never know with people these days.

With that sort of threat I don't think you have a choice but to report it.

i see this as just drama trolling on a forum and that people have better things to do in real life and i think that the police wont do anything about it. if something happened whether the police are informed or not, they can atleast see this forum to see who the suspect is.

the police wont do any 24 hour protection, nor would they do any contacting with other state police departments or other authorities to identify AMT to prevent anything.. so what is the point.

the best bet is to flashmob many blogs and forums to highlight AMT's shady practices.

Maybe he isn't threatening to break anything.  Maybe he is just threatening to glue his fingers with Super Glue.

This is 2014. Here in gun-obsessed America, our teens acquire guns and use them to kill people all the time. Sadly. I wouldn't take the chance if it was my safety being threatened.

It's amazing how many tough guys there are on the internet. Luckily I have family in law enforcement so if anyone threatens me it is very easy to pursue!

I've had some experience with this, you don't report this kind of stuff so the police will do anything about it, you report so you can establish a history in case something does happen. If you are ever involved in an incident, and need to defend yourself in court, or in an investigation, being able to produce a history that's already on the record is invaluable to be able to show that you did fear injury or death.  

Yes Bruno you should report it, it won't take long.

You should report it to the police. It is not serious now, but it could get ugly. In the bitcoin world, he could very easily transfer a few bitcoins and have you "hurt" within seconds. You could in return find his address, which you seemed to do so well too, and send him a bouquet of flowers 8)

Technically, breaking off the arms and/or fingers won't completely stop a person's ability to type.  They would have to disable every single part of the body that COULD touch and push down on a keyboard.  So yeah, it kind of is a death threat ::)

With voice recognition software you might have to go even further.
