I would probably guess it would be something like New York. Or maybe Berlin. But maybe there are some other cities out there that happen to have a much larger percentage of people actively using bitcoin.

I'd love to visit a city where I can spend bitcoin throughout my day on the regular daily activities like dining, shopping, and entertainment. Is this possible anywhere yet?

Even if you know your city isn't the biggest bitcoin city, post it anyway and describe how people are actively using bitcoin if you'd like to share.

Yes this site is awesome, when I first about this website I was watching it all day, just to see where the big bitcoins would be bought.
My observation back then was that the asians where buying bitcoin like crazy.
But I think some asian city in China has proberly the most users of bitcoin.

i would guess silicon valley/northern california.. their sports venues even accept BTC (kings and sharks, i believe).

Too bad Peru is so weak in BTC, I would like to buy gold while here on a visit.

That site is skewed, as it will ALWAYS show money moving INTO bitcoin when it is also moving out at the same time.

I think this is the closest you will ever get to knowing where bitcoin is the most popular. Although it does show the merchants and not the bitcoin owners. But it's nearly impossable to even know how many bitcoin users there are in total, let alone know where they live.

If I were to guess I would say San Francisco. Seems to be  a lot high profile bit coiners there.

I would agree here. I would think California has the most BTC users. San Francisco as a city probably has a lot of users as well

I would guess perhaps Nicosia, Cyprus or Utrecht, Holland. Lots of Bitcoin nodes in Holland. and Germany.

I have found the Bitcoin is legal in Germany and Spain. So it could be any cities from these two country.

Since last week, after Arnhem Bitcoincity (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=619465.0), I would guess Arnhem (in the east of the Netherlands) has the highest Bitcoin usage per capita.

looking at this map - almost looks like a bitcoin war is going on between usa and china.

i understand china sees bitcoin as way of attacking the dollar.

This site is stupid. I have no idea what this site is showing. When I compare okcoin on bitcoinwisdom and on this site (neary every transaction is showed as a transaction on OKCoin), I can't even see a similar pattern. And trades on Bitstamp are not shown at all.

The impact of China to Bitcoin is smaller then most people think. I think the major cities are:
1. London
2. Berlin
3. US- cities

Hm but using for what? Buying things? In actual stores or via the internet? Or trading it? Or just buying it as a longterm investment?

it doesn't bode well seeing vast amounts of bitcoin going to 1 or 2 locations, would have been nice to see a greater representation in developing countries.

This data is informal and really just based on peeking at the sources for a moment. It does not consider population density or GDP of any of these countries.

Fiatleak isn't working correctly, I think it was originally created to manipulate the exchange rate at a time of turmoil.

Good analysis. New York and San Fran seem to be the consensus for most popular bitcoin cities. San Fran probably has more btc user per capita but NYC is huge of course so it makes up for it in volume of users(I'm assuming this anyway).

but....london seems to be the centre of economic fraud at the moment and perhaps the last place where btc would take adoption at the moment - even though there are many btc entrepreneurs in london i dont believe the mainstream adoption is as quite developed as the us or china.

My best guess is New York since they have meetups there and Wall street is nearby with traders

Capital of Slovenia with 250k population have 3 Bitcoin ATM, doubt any place have more per capita.

Part of that is infrastructure and part of it is capital. Time will change that.

If I were to make an educated guess I would say either Vancouver or San Francisco.

Vancouver had the first bitcoin ATM that allowed it's population learn about, buy and start using bitcoin.

San Francisco's large amount of tech companies have many employees that are interested/use bitcoin.

That must be China, just by probability and country's population. The youtube views of that PSY guy are just by probability and country's population.

But now really , there is no usage of btc in china , almost no shop using it.
I doubt that there are more than 1000 chinese that have btc in their wallets (not on their fake volume exchnges).

My bet would be on either NYC or one of the major European cities close by.

If anything Japan is massively under represented in bitcoin. I hardly hear of anything going on in Japan related to bitcoin outside of the fact that Karpeles ran Gox out of Tokyo.

Can't say we're very large or anything but a lot of companies in Miami are starting to get on board with bitcoinsBTC, Bars, Nightclubs, Hotels, Resturants and a few retail merchants!  ;D

It would likely be Vancouver as this is where one of the first bitcoin ATMs was placed.

The coffee shop that housed the ATM had so much bitcoin related traffic that people actually came to the coffee shop to trade bitcoin with people hoping to use the ATM. The ATM operator actually needed to hire an attendant to stop people from "front running" the ATM

Asking the highest amount is going to result in a flawed statistic.  Greater Tokyo is one of the world's biggest mega metros (36 million), so naturally Tokyo therefore would probably have the most Bitcoin users.

Per capita and per person, on the other hand, Vancouver and then San Francisco are likely the leaders in Bitcoin adoption.

Mind you it's not much of a race.  There's only a few thousand Bitcoin merchants in the world and a lot of them are really niche novelty services.  Can't afford a Tesla so I can forget about that.  No interest in Tattoos or Cannabis seeds..  What does that honestly leave me with?  We need way more restaurants and supermarkets to take on BTC but the confirmation times I think scares them away.

Bitcoin's use for me is arguably for international travel and remittance.  Border control restricts me from taking more than $500 abroad and oversea ATMs charge me $2 - $5 to withdraw funds in the local currency (even though I am using VISA which is everywhere).  Bitcoin allows me to get past that with ease.

Probably China in years to come, they have the largest population. Imagine if they lifted the ban, floodgates will be opened.

That's a pretty good possibility, but I'll try to host a similar event in other cities in the Netherlands and make them catch up.

The Netherlands may become a bitcoin front runner even more.


Instead of complaining about it do it like we do in holland, contact local restaurants and ask them to accept bitcoin.

In one relatively small city in the netherland there's already 15 bars and restaurants that accept bitcoin.

I would say that per capita would be a more accurate measure of bitcoin usage then total population of users.

Most other population related statistics are measured that way, crime rate, poverty rate, birth rate, death rate, home ownership, ect.

no wonder their government is trying to cripple btc with bans every week.

In the future both St. Kitts and Bali are looking to become Bitcoin Islands. Who knows, maybe all the BTC whales will move to these places (Roger Ver already has). The goal is to make it so that you do not need any fiat currency to live - everything can be paid for in BTC!

I think it depends from the main factor - how well the internet infrastructure and internet ecosystem is developed in the country. China, USA or EU has a strong internet ecosystem.
