Post by: Maidak on June 02, 2014, 11:28:41 PM
I've been wondering this for some time and would like a solid answer or link to the answer if anyone has it available.

Here we go,

I don't have a problem with alt accounts as long as they're not used for evading bans. If you're hesitant to say something controversial because you don't want it to be associated with your name, please create an alt account and say it.

Multiple accounts are allowed, but some people don't like it, and may give negative trust for alt-accounts.

It should be https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=104178.0.
Btw, you could click the "Quote from: theymos on August 28, 2012, 09:17:31 PM" on top of the quote and it will direct you to the thread.

I bet they didn't get negative trust just for owning an alt, but what they were using it for.
Examples are:
-quoting your own post with an alt
-praising yourself to make the deal look trustworthy
-giving yourself trust
-post padding by talking to yourself
-spamming other users with negative trust or private messages

And probably many more, people can be really clever :D

They can also be really stupid as well (alt accounts with practically the same sign-up date & post/activity count posting one after the other in giveaway and signature deal threads etc  :D.
