Title: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? Post by: bitcoinhero on February 14, 2012, 01:47:06 AM hello I am a noobie, I don't know much about bitcoins but I was wondering if I could trade some unwanted giftcards that I received as a present for bitcoins.. I understand I have low reputation and I was just wondering if its possible with such low reputation/post count
Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? Post by: SgtSpike on February 14, 2012, 01:49:53 AM It's possible, but you'll have to give a steep discount on the gift cards to make it worth the risk. You'll also probably have to use an escrow service.
What cards are you getting rid of? Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? I'd be willing to sell them cheap to someone with good reputation.. and I don't mind waiting to receive the bitcoins Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? Post by: Stephen Gornick on February 14, 2012, 02:31:07 AM You would probably find a willing trader on the #bitcoin-otc marketplace.
- http://www.bitcoin-otc.com - http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#bitcoin-otc-foyer Similar services which pay out in PayPal, for instance, yield about 85% of the card's face value. - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2452.msg661611#msg661611 Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? US based? Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? Post by: SgtSpike on February 14, 2012, 04:15:55 PM Sorry for double post, but when you sell a giftcard, do you have to mail it? Or can you just give them the code on the back of the card Most can be used online, which means you just have to scratch off the code on the back and use that and the number on the front. Check on the website of the company the gift card is for, and if they have a place to input a gift card code during checkout, then they accept them online.Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? Or can you just give them the code on the back of the card As SgtSpike mentioned, some cards can be spent online. But with the prepaid card trading services listed in the link I gave most will want the card to be mailed in. One service offers the ability to bring the card to an agent who will redeem it: - http://www.swapagift.com (agent locations in much of the U.S. / e.g., at check cashing stores) Title: Re: Trade Gift Cards for Bitcoins? Post by: Stephen Gornick on February 14, 2012, 04:39:00 PM What other online marketplaces are there for bitcoins? US based? Well, Get-Bitcoin is a U.S.-based exchange for buying and selling bitcoins. Cash in the mail to buy bitcoins is one method even. - http://www.get-bitcoin.com Camp BX is another U.S.-based exchange: - http://www.campbx.com - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Buying_bitcoins If instead you are asking about marketplaces other than exchanges between dollars and bitcoins, the Trade page on the Bitcoin wiki lists merchants who accept bitcoin as payment and lists other sites where bitcoins are used in commerce: - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade |
