Title: 5970 temps, clocks and voltages
Post by: cmg5461 on February 14, 2012, 03:40:28 AM
So, all you 5970 owners, what do you run your 5970's at?

I currently have one running at 775mhz @ 1.025v & 50% fan @ 65C

Trying to see how low I can go without boot looping myself :D

Post'em!

850/300 - stock V - 60C

Night: 825MHz / 200MHz / 1050mv / 78C

780 to 835 w/ auto-gpu in cgminer.
150 Mhz memclock, stock voltage, 85% static fan.

Tends to hit a low (due to garage heating up) around 3pm or so and hit max clock in evening.

When browsing:
825/150 @ 1.05v

When sleeping (850 causes driver response problems when I'm browsing but completely stable if I'm not using the computer):
850/150 @ 1.05v

I keep fan at 50% and temps hover around 75-80C (case door off).

  Nearly all of mine:

  Stock volts in Afterburner.
815 core (with one at 825).  The lone exception are the two in my main system.  Nearest cores to the fan are at 800 with cores getting the secondary heat at 450 (/cry).
Memory as low as AB allows (500mhz or so)
Fans 70-75% usually, though closer to 80 in my main system (I didn't anticipate the airflow needed for twin 5970s, cooling-wise, whoops).
Temps, low 70s in my main rig, 60-70C or so in my others (offsite now thankfully).

  Good fun...BIG cards!

850 @ 1.1v - ~400m/hash per gpu on CGMiner. Fan 100% :) temps 72

Reference one in a rig, temps ~80-85C with 830/300 & 815/300 core clocks. Default Fan and voltage, ~40% and 1.05V.

Just got one with an accelero cooler, ~50-55C with 870/300 & 880/300 core clocks, although I'm not sure yet of long term stability, may need to lower them by 10MHz or so. Fan at 80% (still silent!), default voltage. Very nice card :)

fans at 100?  ...  do you have an extra cache of fans?

Title: Re: 5970 temps, clocks and voltages

well, I'm having a hard time controlling the fan. It's an XFX model and I've updated the BIOS which does allow fan control but it's pretty hit and miss. MSI Afterburner and CCC and even CGMiner can control the fan by %, but whatever I set it to, GPU Z still shows the fan at 30% and RPM 4500.

I do have a spare stock cooler for it so if it dies I'll just replace the cooler.

Probably wont be buying another one and I'll just get a 7950

I have a few of the OEM/unbranded 5970s. Im not crazy about them. Some ran 800, others 820-850. Stock volts. 330 hash per core. Fans 55%. Temps 80. One of them stopped working completely. I wont buy OEM equipment any more. Asus or sapphire only.

2 cards with cores at 805 MHz, 3 cores at 1.012 V and one core at 1 V. Fans at 60% and temps at 70C and 57C.

My 5970 never runs stable above 750MHz at stock voltage, now I even back to stock frequency of 725Mhz, the longest run is about 2 months, always below 65C

860mhz core 300mhz mem - 1.075v - 71*C - ~100*C VDDC

i can do 900/300 at 1.125v but the VDDC temp hits 120 and resets voltage = crash, with some cooling i could do better.

I think the voltages will be the important part going forward to save energy costs... hoping to get some comments from the D&T 5970 expert:  how low do you think I can push down the V with mh above 700?

I have a few of these 4x5970 rigs, so I thought I would take the one in the warmest spot to lower the V and hashrate to see what Mh/J I could get.

I have 2 of them on killawatt meters.

this one is at 725/300  0.99V   ~2.56  Mh/watt   (1032watts) will report back stability.

edit:  damn 3rd card always runs hot.  ebay purchase.  arrrgggg

Mining @ 820/300, getting ~370Mhash per core. Stock volts.
For OEM cards, they stay pretty cool. 40% fan, core temps hover around 59-63 degrees...

Now I have fixed a problematic pci-e extender, my 5970 can run 800/300 at stock V under 55c  (open case temp 5c) for 40% fan, but I only push it to 97%-98%

5970s undervolted mostly because of fear of overheating or sudden death

core: 750Mhz
mem: 250Mhz
Vddc: 1.000V
Temp: 66ºC
Hashrate: 690MH/s

i have one that won't mine at 750 core so i leave it at 725, the rest is the same , oh the hashrate drops to 666MH/s

I have been running some of my rigs @ 1.00V.  Nice drop in power consumption.  As FPGA miners start making the price/difficulty ratio to fall (network gets more efficient) I think the 5970s are a great card because you can keep dropping voltage (and clocks) to boost efficiency and expand their longevity.

The bad news is that you make less gross hashes the good news is that you can keep mining even with really old hardware. :)

man i never thought about that before, what is the lowest (highest?) undervolt you have achieved? and at what clocks?

between 800/193 and 850/193, stock voltage, in water cooled system, temps always under 50oC, in other one, highest I've seen is 72oC, fan maxes out at 75oC, hasnt gotten that high yet.  avg fan speed probably around 50%

My 5970 that has been running since this January: 54.5C / 51.0C, 90% Fan, 810 / 280 and 830 / 280 at 1.05 volts.

It's more than that.  When I setup cgminer, the rig was really unstable.  Even with stock clocks.  Better to just use phoenix and have no more downtime,

that's odd, my experience is the opposite. Phoenix was utter crap for me giving me like 30% rejects, when i started using cgminer it all became stable

With BAMT that is.

Daytime (windows open)...

810/180 @ 1.05v = 370 Mh/s

Nightime (windows closed)

755/180 @ .99v = 342 Mh/s

Try to keep temps under 70c and fans below 65%...

Already replaced the fans and reapplied TP on 2 of the 3 cards...
