Title: How much of a premine is too much?
Post by: cameronpalte on June 04, 2014, 02:06:53 AM
Hello Everyone,
I was going over some of the details for building my new coin Quantum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=635641.new#new and I was thinking about the premine some. Currently I have it setup as a 0.5% premine, however, I was looking at it and if I set it as a 1% premine I would be able to do much more marketing & develop more services etc by release. The actual amount that went to the developers would be the same and I would be transparent about it all.

So I was curious I know many people here say that any premine is too much of a premine, run on donations etc. - but seeing as I don't just have hundreds/thousands of dollars lying around to go put into building a coin and marketing it their has to be some sort of a premine. I was curious would you guys think the 1% premine is justified if the additional will all be used for the coin in a transparent manner or do you think it is too much?

From what I've seen, the consensus seems to be that there should be no more than 2% premined. You'll do well do keep it as low as possible :)
