Title: Countdown to Litecoin Block Reward Halving
Post by: tuneman1980 on June 04, 2014, 07:24:00 PM
There's only about 1 year, 2 months, and 25 days till the first Litecoin block reward halving: http://cryptocoinstats.com/supplytracker.php?s=tt

What's going to happen to the price?

depends on if people still view ltc as the silver to btc's gold.  If so then I could see it going up in price for sure. I mean after all you make half for the same amount of effort

litecoin is finished according to this altcoin section which might be a good thing as week on week its becoming a grubbier place to visit. Anyone with any real interest in any of the latest coins needs to be aware in a few months the altcoin section will have moved on calling your coin dead too.

As for the halving not sure what that will bring hopefully not an empty pump and dump, a couple of dollars rise a year along with a steady increase in adoption would be far better.

7 months, 14 days, 10 hours...

I started to mine litecoin late, in april 2013, with 4 brand new HD7970@1055/1500 and 750 kh. I damned LTC inside me when he dived slowly to 2 then 1.70 $,
After an april 4,50 $ pike, my Litecoins began to sink, very slowly untill october and 1.70 $, LTC haters triumphed on BTC-e trollbox but... for the reasons you know (2nd crypto, faster, identified "father", Mineable and at first, when i was very naïve: ASIC resistant), i kept some.
400 ltc... worthless, dying... and then the big, the grreat rise came my men, ooh yeah.... a  Gr... my preciouses even reached 10 $ ! (what i expected: 6-10, what i dreamed: 20-30, and if i had to definitively stop netherlands stamppot: 50-100 $).

This end of 2013 (Nov. 18th), the LTC worth 0.0075 BTC and climbed to 0.5
After the 48$ ejaculation, and the 42 double cheese, the long nightmare started.
35... 21...13.. and nowaday 1.60$.
the worthless, dying LTC worth 0.0061 BTC.
I know maybe i should not, but it was to strong for me... i bought LTC again..."WHAT YOU SAY ?", "Yes, i'm deeply sorry for my credit here, but 1.60 and 0.006 was so cheap regarding
the halving which should happen in late days of august 2015... with a is still huge network despite this long downtrend.

After this impulsive buy, i feel better, calm, i dont really need to hang on bitcoinwisdom orbs anyway. ;D

LTC has a solid history of big rallies after things look really dark. Anyone who buys now will be way ahead at some point in the future.

Some bitcoin fans wish LTC to die, imo because they see it as a threat. I think BTC and LTC can perfectly exist both. Some will prefer BTC, others will prefer LTC. Reason why LTC value is somewhat connected to BTC is because BTC was the first crypto that got worldwide attention when it hit the $1000,-- line. LTC came later and therefore is compared  to BTC by people from the start, that's a common effect you see everywhere in the market.
LTC has a huge community, so it will stay alive. LTC and BTC value are low at this moment. The main target for all us crypto fanatics is to get crypto largely adopted in the world, that's in benefit for LTC and BTC.

Bitcoin had its first halving in nov 2012 the price 2 weeks before was $10 per btc, 5 months after the halving it was $150.

It's impossible to understand the LTC hate.

Most coins and platforms are complicated shit nobody needs or wants...
Where the primary purpose is to transfer wealth from idiots to scammers ("Devs").

But day after day...
The basic LTC wallet does what it's meant to do = BE MONEY...
Sent through 1000s of Money Transmitters at the liquidity level of $5 million/day.

Today's exchange volume:

BTC 75%
LTC 10%
ETH 5%

Bitcoin's days at #1 are numbered.

100% agree.

if members of this forum want a crypto to succeed (not just here to make quick fiat) why not back the one thats consistantly on top of the alts (and remains so without all hype). one of the few with a known dev and not a scam.

75% in this market with 1000 of alts is still huge.. All these alts, apart from a couple like LTC, ETH and doge have not managed to snoop away more than 25% of all crypto volume. Not bad I would say.

I am sorry are you saying that Charlie Lee knew all CHinese financial crashes and decided to have Litecoin halve around those specified dates? This makes no sense.

No, I'm saying no such thing. That would be stupid.

In fact the reason PM have been valuable for so long is the fact They cant be doctored with.

New supply is "much lesser", but overall supply is growing every block. People were talking about the block halving in January, think about all the newly minted LTC since Jan.

Halving doesn't equal lower supply. However it will be interesting to see what happens to the mining hashrate with lower rewards at these prices. Halving for LTC had really bad timing.

Neither of us can prove anything but i STRONGLY suspect LTC is rising because its halving is so close. Diminished supply = Increased price. It's simple economics.

The supply isn't shrinking, and all the coins mined still exist. Only thing that diminished is the NEW supply. And simple economics is supply and demand, there needs to be demand for LTC for the price to rise.

I don't know what will happen, but the halving alone isn't going to be enough to drive litcoin prices there needs to be demand.  hopefully demand for all cryptos increases but for that we need more people to use crypto everyday for more than mining and trading.

I don't agree! Normally the diminished supply will drive up the price! But IMO financial market and Bitcoin  crash may cause people panic selling! I know the true investors may look it as a good opportunity to buy up them!

I expect the price to go up just enough to support 35gh or so so i'm thinking $4/ltc   all the older hardware like Zeus , Gridseed are bascially dead.  A2 and Alchemist hanging by a thread.

it is new halving now, four years ago it was expected that halving will bring price to 4USD, now 100USD hurdle shall be jumped over with this halving, it is expected in 13 hours and we will see will that happen

BTC will halve in almost a year, 287 days is estimation to be precise, and these ten months should bring bull market, what do you think

Litecoin halving is not the only upcoming halving this year, few other popular altcoins will halve this year after Bitcoin halving in May, LTC price will definitely bring a difference after the halving is over but won't be on same level with the hype surrounding btc halving
