Title: SolidCoin/Alternate Cryptocurrencies?
Post by: Anorak on February 15, 2012, 12:42:10 AM
Can anyone explain to me why this alternate cryptocurrency (SolidCoin) is considered scam by the majority in here?
Also, what is the best alternative to BitCoin? It seems to me LiteCoin is going fine.. Is there any other alternative alive right now?

The developers of SC have been completely dishonest about the nature of their code since it was first distributed. There is a 12 million coin pre-mine which is set aside for the personal use of the lunatic who is the most vocal mouthpiece for it. They have made drastic and unnecessary changes to the structure of the coin, the block reward and the rules concerning mining it repeatedly without notice or warning to those folks who mined it, destroying much of the value of new coins to prop up the value of their privately held old coins. The entire distribution has been released under an illegal copyright notice and is essentially pirated software, using it makes any SC miner accessory to that crime.

See what I mean?
don't get me wrong I don't use solidcoins and don't plan on doing so,
but people on both sides of the argument are being childish.

I dislike SolidCoin because the maintainers are obviously incompetent on system dynamics. Call it childish or whatever, I will not respect that project. And I will not discuss this topic any more, it is a waste of time.

LiteCoin would be good, however, I don't really think it's necessary. The changes compared to Bitcoin are too small to justify the additional infrastructure.

If Bitcoin ever reaches critical mass, I'm all in favor of supporting LiteCoin. Variety is good. Right now, I won't stop anyone or complain, but IMO it is more important to get one cryptocurrency ready for widespread commercial deployment, and Bitcoin is the closest to achieving that.
