Title: Hacked account — problems with understanding the recovery process
Post by: TanteStefana2 on June 06, 2014, 02:50:26 AM
Can anyone explain what I'm supposed to put into these spaces?  I'm confused?  I'm trying to report my lost account and this is what I have to send them, but I have no idea what all these addresses are?  I never gave out my personal address to this site, or anything but my email??

What is a signature?  I mean??? what do they want??

-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
<insert address here>
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: ...
OR
I sent that address to someone in a PM with PM ID#...

Sorry, I forgot to say thank you to you all, I'm a bit flustered :P

Well got tired of waiting for you to answer, but if you have, then you can sign a message that proves you are the owner of that bitcoin address, which is your proof that it is your account. The message being "My account x was hacked blah blah".

Hi, I assumed I had just forgotten my password after changing it as nobody ever used it for anything.  Now someone is trying to sell things with my name.

All I've ever posted was my Darkcoin address, and I sent the info to the moderator.  I probably won't get help because it's not a bitcoin address I did it with.

Anyway, sorry for disappearing, I was happier forgetting about it (and assuming it was my own fault) because otherwise I get upset, as I have an issue with anxiety, it hurts.

But now that someone has shown they took control over my account, I'm going to have to do something... Someone suggested I do negative feedback and link somewhere, probably here.

Thank you all for your help.  Again, sorry I disappeared.  I just don't want people scammed on my account, or any account for that matter, but with my name, it's quite upsetting!

This is very good news, I hope it gets implemented soon, there are many very old and precious accounts on this forum which defo needs more protection.

Can Darkcoin sign and verify messages like Bitcoin can? You'll have to do some research (in all probability it's unlikely) but that might give some credence to your claim. The only one who can help you is theymos, the mods cannot help you regain control of your account.

If you're not too attached to that account, my advice would be to use your new one and get someone (preferably on DefaultTrust) to neg rep the old one so that people are warned about it.

Hi, yes I can and did do that with my Darkcoin account.  Stupid me, I didn't realize I needed to add the actual message, had no idea how it really worked.  Anyway, ended up sending 2 PMs so I'm probably ignored.

Actually, I feel like the account is tainted now and don't care if I got it back.  I was told yesterday I should give negative feedback and explain, so I did.  I just don't like that they can continue to use the account.  Oh well, life is too short.  I've done what I could here and if the system here doesn't care, there is nothing more I can do.  My anxiety level is getting too high and this isn't worth me getting sick over.

Thank you everyone for your help.  I really appreciate it :D

Justin00 I have no idea.  I think because my password wasn't that good.  I now have a good password  ;)  And I have learned to be more paranoid, LOL
