Total number of standard single-sig addresses that are possible?

Total number of standard single-sig addresses that have ever occurred in the blockchain so far?

Total number of standard single-sig addresses that could possibly simultaneously be associated with an unspent output?

Would you consider a multi-sig address to be a different address than the component addresses?

Relevant chart:

https://blockchain.info/charts/n-unique-addresses

If someone has the total figure then I'd like to see that too. I vaguely recall somebody mentioning it on the forums and it was a very small amount. Most people just reuse addresses.

What do you mean when you say a very small amount? I would think with all the security minded bitcoin owners there would be millions and millions of different bitcoin addresses.

That is quote a small amount, relatively speaking. The number of possible addresses is way huger.

Heh heh. I think you are being sarcastic and if you are I totally agree. Most people reuse addresses. Usually it's just one address that they use for everything.

35.5M + approx  actually created ( so they were used).Whether they were all used to transfer coin is another matter.

Many of them are used by the dice sites and other gambling ventures, and I am afraid that more than 90% of them might not be active now. Considering that some 1 million people possess Bitcoins now, the real figure might be somewhere between 3 and 5 million wallets.

how do you know I make 100 addresses ? or are you only interested in addresses with coin in them ?

Even though they may be inactive , this is the number I was looking for.
Thanks qwerty :D

The number shown is the number of addresses with a "balance" (one or more unspent outputs) as of block 300,000.  The total number of addresses which have had a non-zero balance at some point in the past is higher.  I don't have an exact count but it is close to double that.

If the balance is zero does the address disappear from blockchain stats?

Can addresses actually be deleted for ever? If so can the same address be created again in the future?

I know we can delete them from our wallet but then what happens to it ?

I really don't think somebody have counted it yet

No

Can addresses actually be deleted for ever?

Ant address that is generated randomly (not deterministically) and is deleted without being backed up first, is so unlikely to ever be generated again, that you can consider it gone forever.  If it was ever associated with any unspent outputs, there will be a permanent record in tho blockchain of the hash that it was built from.

If so can the same address be created again in the future?

It's so unlikely, you can consider it to be impossible.

I know we can delete them from our wallet but then what happens to it ?

Nothing. an address is just a representation of a very big number. If you erase the number 3 from a piece of paper, what happens to the number 3 in the universe?

If an address has a "zero balance" it would "disappear" from this particular report, but would still be accessible elsewhere.

You cannot ever delete an address. It is necessary for every TX that ever used it's outputs.

even if people use a new address every time and even if bitcoin becomes widely popular, it is not a problem for a while.  by the time that happens, there will be a better system than bitcoin.

even if people use a new address every time and even if bitcoin becomes widely popular, it is not a problem for a while.  by the time that happens, there will be a better system than bitcoin humans will have colonized distant planets surrounding other stars since our sun will no longer exist.

Fixed that for you.
