I've been trying to learn a little chess, but I'm still quite new to it. I'd love to give it a shot -- I don't think I'm completely terrible :D

Still interested...I want to get whooped. Title: Re: Chess players wanted!! One of my "greatest" achievements was winning the "F-Grade" at our local 100th nationals. I won a book for the 11 days of effort. Rating got to 1300-1400 range, but haven't played seriously for years. Title: Re: Chess players wanted!! Beta Testers Post by: bitdragon on February 20, 2012, 01:47:48 AM I would like to play chess. Where do we play?
Title: Re: Chess players wanted!! Beta Testers Post by: rjk on February 20, 2012, 02:01:37 AM I have a friend that plays chess by mail. It takes literally months to complete a game. ;D
I suck at chess, but I might play a quick game if it's available on a website somewhere...? Title: Re: Chess players wanted!! Beta Testers Post by: daybyter on February 20, 2012, 10:16:43 PM I wrote an (still incomplete) chess app a while ago. Might be the perfect opponent for you... :)
Ok, the app was crapp, but it was quite well structured, so we could port it on various platform, like Swing, J2ME and even the Palm pilot. Title: Re: Chess players wanted!! Beta Testers Post by: PatrickHarnett on February 20, 2012, 10:29:58 PM I tried it yesterday - it's a two person thing with stakes. It's in beta testing as it says in the title, but show some promise and could be fun.

Might be the perfect opponent for you... :) I wasn't wanting to play against a machine, but what I would be interested in is a well-designed system that allows players across the internet to play each other. By well-designed, I mean it needs to be polished and look good, as well as having useful features such as a last-move history, a (minimally) animated opponent move indicator (to catch your attention if you happen to glance away), and other bits and pieces.Ok, the app was crapp, but it was quite well structured, so we could port it on various platform, like Swing, J2ME and even the Palm pilot. I was using it for the core of a site I was developing, BitChess.com a while back but ended up hitting the inevitable wall of "it's impossible to make a chess site where people can't cheat".
