Quote
Atlanta metal band Mastodon will be the first major label group to accept the digital currency bitcoin through a partnership with BitPay. “Having a major label artist embrace bitcoin is a definite sign of bitcoin’s growth and expansion into the world of music,” said Tony Gallippi, BitPay CEO and co-founder, in a statement.

Score: Coinbase 2 - 1 Bitpay.  ;D

This is awesome!  Is it just me or does it seem as though precious metals dealers accepting bitcoin is starting to become more of the norm.  Not too surprising this is one of the first industries to so quickly embrace BTC.

this is kinda cool in that if you are an artist, you don't need no record label.. you can just set up your website and provide these songs. just remove the middle man.

Even in this case the middle man is there (Bitpay). But the advantages are that the payments will be anonymous, and the fees will be much more affordable. I think Bitpay normally charges around 1% in commission, compared to the 2.8% charged by Visa / Master.
