Title: New girl getting into Bitcoin, seeking advice!! c:
Post by: drkprincess on June 13, 2014, 11:42:23 PM
Hi!! My name is Aurora and I'm new to Bitcoin and also a new /r/GirlsGoneBitcoin girl on reddit.com. I just uploaded my first "teaser" album (http://imgur.com/a/CowkF#0) and got verified (http://redd.it/27xywj) the day before last, and I'm working on my next album!!  :)

I've already learned a lot about Bitcoin but I still have a LOT of questions!! I never knew all this stuff existed or how powerful it is!! It's sooo much better than online banks or Paypal, omg lol!  :D

I have a very close friend acting as my manager and teacher and he has taught me a LOT in a very short period of time. I know how to use blockchain.info and My Wallet, I'm learning my way around Bitcoin-qt and Darkcoin-qt (they seem very similar) and he even gave me a little bit of Bitcoin to play around with gambling sites just to practice making and receiving transactions and whatnot. And it was fun too, hehe. I'm also learning to sign and verify messages with Bitcoin addresses!!

I will try one now with my tipping address. The way I understand it this proves who I am because no one else knows the private key of my address except me, right?

I am drkprincess from reddit and bitcointalk

Hopefully I did it right this time! C:

Anyways, my "manager" encouraged me to join these forums and says I can learn a lot about Bitcoin here and get help and advice. I have to learn how to use this stuff on my own and be more independent! What do you think I need to focus on learning? I am also told there are lots of scammers and hackers who steal your Bitcoin if you're not careful. How do I avoid this? They can't steal my Bitcoin if I don't send it to them and use strong passwords for all my accounts, right? I also want to learn how to use exchanges and trade Bitcoins and Darkcoins and other coins and the easiest way to get $ for my coins safely!!

Business advice would also be helpful!! How do I maximize my revenues and make my work more profitable? What sort of things should I focus on? Photoshoots, cam shows, private chat, special requests, etc? We're also planning on launching a new website soon starring myself and a few other local girls that accepts Bitcoin and Darkcoin and maybe other coins. I don't know anything about the technical programming stuff, but I'm definitely interested in advice on the business side of things and how we can make a good, profitable website.

Thanks and sorry for asking so many questions! c;

drkprincess

P.S. Opinions and feedback on my first album welcomed and appreciated!!  ;D

Right, nobody knows this address. The private key is used to move money, that is why you dont want anybody to know it.

You can avoid scammers by avoiding money to strangers. To avoid hackers is more tricky, because hackers are clever people. To avoid, you need a secure computer or cold storage. Some people use Windows machines with tons of anti-virus, firewalls etc, others use a Linux variant. There are several things to do in general, as the computer is now worth money. Security is a big topic, cold storage is the most safe:
>don't install new software (from the web) on the computer
>don't install plugins for webbrowsers
>avoid wireless, use wired internet
>don't use the computer that has money on it, like regular computer. only use it for money
>make a copy of your wallet files (on usb or coldstorage). In case your computer crash, you still want access to your money
>keep your laptop safe  (make sure nobody puts hardware keylogger inside)
etc.. I'm sure other members will give more tips  :)

All of them have a market. As it is a startup bussiness, you may want to try all and see what you feel most comfortable with / earns most. Or you could try new things that have not been tried before. For example, in Japan it is possible to hire/rent a (digital) gf for an hour rate; Anyway, I have no experience in this particular area so my best suggestion is to experiment.

I'm a dev; Generally people use a "LAMP" combination (Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP), it takes some skill or practice to set it all up, but other technologies are common too. For example, some websites rely completely on Java or ASP.NET. The one technology you always see on the web is HTML often in combination with JavaScript.  Either do it all yourself, or hire a developer. (or alternatively, get a dev "investor" who get 0.01% of the profit)

The handwritten bitcoin/darkcoin addresses are good, but perhaps QR code would be a good addition. People could scan and tip.  I would suggest to smile a bit more on some photos. Perhaps you could do something with the environment, there is an ship painting on the wall (after you look 5 times  :P ), you may want a more 'romantic' or 'kinky' environment. The wire of the lamp near the wall, I dont think you want this; I think, its important to have the enviornment so that you are the focus of the scene. Images 2, 4, 13,14,15 are the best in terms of body language, but opinions may vary.

Thank you so much, bitsmichel!!  :D

So the best ways to avoid hackers stealing your coins is basically the same way you avoid viruses and malware? Also if I want to trade with somebody I guess they would ask me to send money to them first because I'm a n00b and nobody really knows me yet. But how do I know if they are a scammer or not??  :P

Also, thank you for the advice! I think the QR code idea is good. I will be doing future albums in different locations. We also have a much better camera to use in future work. We just sort of threw this first album together quickly to get verified and set up. And we also wanted to give it the "at home" look and feel. But I agree with your suggestions!! c:

Thanks again and let me know if anyone else has any tips or advice for me!!  :)

<3 Aurora

Welcome! :)

First of all I'd like to compliment you on your album, I'm sure you will get a nice amount of bitcoins with your services!

The safest way to store your bitcoins is on devices that never have and never will be connected to the internet, always have multiple backups of your wallet stored safely, preferably protected with a good password.

Or paper wallets created on offline devices and also safely stored in multiple safe locations.

If you are converting your coins often to dollars on an exchange and never have a big amount of coins, blockchain.info wallet is fine. It's easy to use and provides lots of options, preferably also protected with a good password and 2 factor authentication(SMS/Google Authenticator).

As bitsmichel said QR codes are definately good to use, it will be easier for people to send you coins instead of having them type in the whole address themselves.

Good luck in the future!

You can use escrows.
There are some highly trusted people here willing to provide escrow service.
Some are doing it for a fee, while some are doing it for free.

Thanks for the list.
IMO, one slight problem of it is that it puts John K in first place, without mentioning he has a history of disappearing while holding escrows for months...

I guess that makes sense to use escrow services. It's basically a trustworthy middleman who holds the money and makes sure both people really follow through with their deal, correct? Thank you for the list!! I will definitely look over it if I ever need to make a deal! c:

It took me a day longer than expected, by I finally finished my second album (http://imgur.com/a/kQtDh) (WARNING: 18+ years of age only!!!) and released the first 10 images. I thought it would be a good idea to release a few images at a time, so that the viewers will tip if they want to see more. I think if you just give all your content away for free you're less likely to get tips, perhaps. Hopefully this strategy will work out well.  :D

Exactly. As an example, the following is the escrow process of escrow.ms (one of the most trusted persons here).
Escrow Process
1. Buyer and seller both needs to contact me and provide details of deal.
2. I will then send them a confirmation pm and both need to agree it.
3. Buyer need to make payment to me and include escrow fees (If he's paying escrow)
4. I will then send seller a payment confirmation pm.
5. Then Seller needs to provide item to buyer and pm me tracking/proof so i can check it and confirm delivery with buyer
6. Upon buyers confirmation,I will release escrow.

You should still use common sense when dealing with escrow. Before blindly accepting someone for escrow search their user name to check for scam accusations.

Wellcome to BTC world and to this forum, but i didn't expect you to sell your pictures for BTC. I guess you can make better than that, that's so sad i can't even find my words what to say. You got 0.05 max on that address you posted and thats like 25$, thats not enough for revealing your body, please have more respect to yourself.

Change your Subject for this thread, you might get more tips. {New Girl to Bitcoin, seeking advice}

I can give you another tip, "Do not look directly into the sun, you might go blind"  ;D ;D

I'm not sure if you're just trolling or serious, but wow...

The purpose of tips is just as a "thank you" for sharing your work/content. It's not for "selling" the pictures. If we were selling pics you would have to pay for them first and wait for them to be delivered to you. ::)

The real money to be made in this is through advertising and directly interacting with your fans and followers. We've made a lot more than 0.055 BTC. When you consider the fact that the 0.055 BTC was given to me freely, even though no one was required to do so (content was free for everyone to see), it's not so bad.  :)

Welcome :)

Little tip from what I have seen over the years... Do not advertise the fact you are female. Alot of people will say you are fake, or attention seeking.
10000% not saying you are doing either, its just what I have noticed over the errr ummm 15 years I have been on forums.
Plus heaps of guys will hit on you, but i guess if you are on that reddit site that might work in your favour :]

All the best and have fun :)

She looks 18+, but always best to ask LOL.

BTW You should hold up a sign with date/name/BTC address so people can 100% verify it is you in the pictures and you did not just download them off some other site :)
