Title: Dogecoin is the OWS of coins....
Post by: videos4btc on June 18, 2014, 03:11:34 AM
I see the clean folks of the Tea Party as Bitcoin and Dogecoin as the Occupy Wall St. of  crypto-coins.
Thoughts?

Typical Tea Party behaviour, to make like if those who don't think like them didn't matter ;)

Good comparaison, OP. However, it might not be exact. Most who are in the Occupy Wall Street would want to empower the lower classes with the help of a socialist government, while I have the impression that most dogecoiners want to reach the same goal but through a different mean; by directly empowering them with the help of cryptocurrencies, and redistributing wealth so more of it is in the hand of those who have charitable goals.

I see Bitcoin as the Roman Republic, with the senate being large holders. It's hard for it to improve itself, as the senate acts according to its interests, rather than those of Rome. I see Dogecoin as the Western Roman Empire: not well-planned, but will form the basis of a successful entity due to its ability to change.

...that's all a bit out there, but you started it.

Interesting thoughts but look at the socialist lunacy of so many Bitcoiners evidenced on this very forum.

Pot?

Dogecoin might be good for micropayments but then again there could be other cryptos that outcompete it in that niche. Personally I think that dog isn't even that cute...I like the much wow language but I think dogecoin could easily go the way of the dodo.

dogecoin is just an altcoin..

the price value is dying. and many people are being left with a bag of useless coins. by trying to stir the water, changing its purpose in the hope that people will buy the worthless coins off of you at a premium, so that you can get out quick, is very evident here.

doge coin has soo many 'promotions' and advertising, but offers no new features that i have not seen on any other altcoin. these 'promotions' are just ways of temporarily pump and dumping the coin, like a game of pass the parcel...

it is boring and people need to realise that 99% of altcoins bring no new ACTUAL FEATURES to the community. its just a lot of sentiment and verbal waffle...

Dogecoin inflation will decrease to 5% by 2015, so price may stabilize and it does have the feature of being able to handle smaller transactions than bitcoin.  Not sayin it's amazing or anything.

Imho, the most important aspect of Dogecoin is not how convenient it is for micropayments; it's the fact that it is the only crypto which has developped an userbase with values fondamentaly different from all the others. That's what makes it worth something; it has nothing to do with its features which any other altcoin could easily copy.

When buying Bitcoins, I have the impression that I'm contributing to an awesome project which has the potential to bring much change to the world and bring an overdue wealth-distribution that would ultimately empower the people over the corrupt bankers and politicians. However, when doing that, I have the bitter feeling of also empowering leeches who are in this only to speculate and gain fast profits.

That feeling just isn't there when I buy dogecoins, and it feels great to be able to contribute to a community which has the heart required to make the world a better place.

(That reply goes to you to, franky1. A global economy based on one currency is unhealthy; different communities need to have different coins, this makes realising their goals much easier.)

I see Bitcoin as the Roman Republic, with the senate being large holders. It's hard for it to improve itself, as the senate acts according to its interests, rather than those of Rome. I like your analogy!

holy shit??  Me thinks this will ruin the coin ?

That's equivalent to the amount of Dogecoins mined in less than four days, most of them dumped by multipools. This won't make a big difference, and they probably are sold already.

LOL, I love the OWS analogy!

Yes, just like OWS Dogecoin will fade away into the dustbin of history.

NEM is more the Occupy Wall Street movement in the cryptocurrency world I think.

They're the ones reacting against what they feel is an unfair system. And actually attempting to do it their own way on what they feel is an equitable method of distributing coins. Who knows how their project will work out but I think there is definitely some similarities there.

I think that is overly optimistic for doge.  I like doge and I think it may be a survivor but Too Many Coins is a real problem.  It seems to be in this 50 to 60 satoshi zone right now and while it will continue to have block reward reductions I can't see it really getting boosted much going forward.

Very bark!

So growl!

Much marking!

Been gone for a while due to health issues but everything is OK now.

Just kind of took a break from the madness of crypto!

How so? There are tons of altcoins that offer innovative technology. How does new tech have no meaning?

I find it relevant that there are coins for every community, innovative technology is not even necessary.
For exemple, someone who sees value in cryptocurrencies and who has a mindset more inclined towards socialism might not want to buy Bitcoins and thus give power to the libertarian early-holders by doing so.

I agree. And I expect in the future we will see much more in the way of currencies based upon different political ideals. And definitely not just libertarian ones either. There's lots of room in the world for different currencies and different ideologies.
