Otherwise quoting would be plagiarism too, and knowledge would not be shared very efficiently. (Most people hear about new things via third parties rather than the person who originally came up with the idea). Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work Of course, in this case it makes sense to paste the relevant portion than post a link to the wikipedia article.
