Title: [ANN] sgminer with X11/X13/Nist5/Quark/Anime kernels compatible 14.6 amd drivers
Post by: djm34 on June 19, 2014, 08:34:20 PM
Hi,

I have released a version of sgminer which allows to mine X11 and X13 coins using 14.6 amd drivers.

As it has been noticed some times ago, with 14.6 drivers almost double the hashrate of groestl algorithm and substantially increases the hashrate of any algo using groestl such as X11, X13, Nist5 (talkcoin).

However with 14.6 drivers some algos (in particular X11 and X13) stopped working completely.
This release fix the problem. This release is based on lasybear sgminer release.

You can find the source at:  https://github.com/djm34/sph-sgminer_x11mod
windows binaries at: https://mega.co.nz/#!sQkQ0JaY!CBz8JkqO8c0IB5ibdUDyeMNrp4hF4MqoU5a6FdJccXw

This version supports these kernels (and some others... but need to be checked though)

* X11mod  (-k x11mod)
* X13mod   (-k x13mod)
* Nist5      (-k nist5)   (talkcoin)
* Quark coins (-k quarkcoin)
* Animecoin (-k animecoin )

I didn't modify the original marucoin and darkcoin kernel are they are slower and some improvement on the quark/anime kernel should be expected soon)

In terms of speed, it was tested so far only on my R9 290x:
With X11mod, I get 5.4MHash/s
With X13mod, I get 3.75MHash/s  (which is not terrible compared to nvidia cards)
With Nist5, I get 15.8MHash/s (more details can be found on talkcoin thread)

did you try to compile the windows binaries yourself ? (could be something wrong with those I provided, I am checking this)

I ran it for a few minutes on x13modold and x11mod on my handicapped rig: 5970 and a 5870.  Performed about the same as some sgminer from March 2014.  This was in windows 8.1 64 bit.  I don't have the 14.6 drivers.  Just using whatever win 8.1 loaded up by default... so who knows, might be 14.6... nope, device mgr says "13.251" whatever that means.

I know, probably not optimized for my 58/59xx series oldster cards.  Hopefully they will be sold on ebay soon :-) and I'll have my replacement 280x's in hand.  Maybe some 750 ti in the near future too.

Good luck with your new miner.  Sounds promising.  I may have to give it a whirl on my other 280x's if profitability ever makes sense again.

Edit:  OP, could you clarify what your numbers mean?  Is that a boost in performance by any measurable percentage?  Not too familiar with 290's here.

Edit:  Nevermind, I see now.. this is just to fix critical errors, not improve hashes.  All good, excuse my ignorance.

I am getting +400khash/s on my 7790 and 7850 using x11, however I am losing around 600khash/s on my r9 270. It appears that thread concurrency and gpu thread settings aren't applying, for TC it does generate a new bin but it looks like it doesn't matter what I set the value to.

Thx!
i uninstall old driver and install AMD 14.6 driver and after install these miner https://github.com/benmagro/Add-SGminer-X11X13Mod-Miner-To-BAMT/tree/master
replace al files in opt/miners/x11x13mod-sgminer with these files https://github.com/djm34/sph-sgminer_x11mod
But i have no high hashrate on my Gigabyte 7950
Have only 2,3 MH as early

Yeah, using those settings changed nothing, I'm sure there's something wrong with my setup because TC definitely isn't really doing anything. Unfortunately I don't really have enough time to wipe it out atm, will report back if I get it all the work though.

you can try to use this one https://mega.co.nz/#!8gZ3BbBa!tJLKAr08Lirinh39h55naOY20gLbyPcQpBgWWcB3UDA or compile yourself (which is always the best solution...)
It was compiled by kozmos (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=658975.0) and works without that problem.
So most likely there is something wrong with my mingw install (I will make a new one)...

I upgraded the AMD Catalyst 12.8 to 14.6 beta on my Debian Squeeze 32 bit mining rig. I then compiled djm34's modified sgminer, here are the results.

On 12.8 (sgminer by lasybear):

Code:
GPU 0:  41.0C   0%    | 2.323M/2.323Mh/s | A:293 R:  1.7% HW:0 WU:0.033/m I:20
GPU 1:  46.0C   0%    | 2.278M/2.275Mh/s | A:290 R:  2.0% HW:0 WU:0.033/m I:20
GPU 2:  41.0C   0%    | 2.262M/2.262Mh/s | A:263 R:  1.5% HW:0 WU:0.031/m I:20

On 14.6 beta (sgminer by djm34):

Code:
GPU 0:  41.0C   0%    | 3.359M/3.349Mh/s | A:19 R:  0.0% HW:0 WU:0.039/m I:20
GPU 1:  45.0C   0%    | 3.357M/3.343Mh/s | A:15 R:  0.0% HW:0 WU:0.031/m I:20
GPU 2:  40.0C   0%    | 3.326M/3.344Mh/s | A:27 R:  0.0% HW:0 WU:0.070/m I:20

More than 1 MH/s hashrate increase per HD 7950 @ 975/1475 for X11.

Remember to delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf and regenerate it with "aticonfig --initial --adapter=all" and remove the existing .bin files that the other sgminer version generated (segfaults).

You forgot to include zlib1.dll in the folder.

Finally got it working with I:16 on my Stilt Bios'd 290x... Can't seem to get it above that intensity level without crashing the driver.

Also, for some reason, I can't set my GPU core freq to 925...

Ideas/Thoughts?

are you using MSI AB ? There is some issue.
What you can try is to restart the computer, then right after having restarted the computer go into msi ab and at that moment, you should be able to decrease the frequency (I think the problem started with the first 14 release and pre-release.)

I think you are going to have trouble using BAMT.  I was using BAMT 1.6 with lasybear's sgminer but never got the hashing rate that everyone else is getting.  I'm switching to Xubuntu and hopefully going to try to install the 14.6 with this sgminer fork.

the windows binary contains adl support (if not let me know I will correct that).

the windows binary contains adl support (if not let me know I will correct that).
Otherwise by compiling yourself from github, you have to have 3 files from AMD SDK to enable adl support

can't see the temp also, using on windows

WHO CAN HELP ME?!

I think you are going to have trouble using BAMT.  I was using BAMT 1.6 with lasybear's sgminer but never got the hashing rate that everyone else is getting.  I'm switching to Xubuntu and hopefully going to try to install the 14.6 with this sgminer fork.

If you haven't already switched to Xunbuntu, BAMT is easy. Took me 10 mins tops.

I tried this miner and Catalyst 14.6 with the same settings like I was using with x11mod miner with Catalyst 14.4 and have a lot of HW (Windows 7, 64bit).
Did anyone has the same?
sgminer.exe -k x11mod -o **** -p **** --intensity 17,17,15,15 --thread-concurrency 8192 --lookup-gap 2 --worksize 256 -g 2
(I have 2*7950 + 2*7870).

Have you tried with default setting ? (also I thought that 14.6 was only for windows 8.1)

What default settings do you mean?
I didn't change anything, I just copied the batch file from my x11mod sgminer folder to your miner folder and started it.

The problem with HW and driver v14.6(rc2) is solved.
Just open files: x11mod.cl / x13mod.cl for sgminer v4.1.xx (darkcoin-mod.cl / marucoin-mod.cl - for sgminer v5) and replace each line, it at beginning of the file:

  • #define SPH_T32(x) ((x) & SPH_C32(0xFFFFFFFF))
  • #define SPH_ROTL32(x, n) SPH_T32(((x) << (n)) | ((x) >> (32 - (n))))

  • #define SPH_T64(x) ((x) & SPH_C64(0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF))
  • #define SPH_ROTL64(x, n) SPH_T64(((x) << (n)) | ((x) >> (64 - (n))))

to this

  • #define SPH_T32(x) (as_uint(x))
  • #define SPH_ROTL32(x, n) rotate(as_uint(x), as_uint(n))

  • #define SPH_T64(x) (as_ulong(x))
  • #define SPH_ROTL64(x, n) rotate(as_ulong(x), (n) & 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUL)

It's work x11/x13 fine for me.

this was changed some time ago, but not released yet... regarding the bad score over virus total (and it is the same for all miners), this is the way it is... don't like it, don't download it... (and compile yourself)

best way is to compile yourself. (I will personally stop giving binaries... it takes 15min, to instal mingw and the necessary packages...)

Now, miners are used in botnet so there will be always tagged as malware/virus... (now it is the case for all miners... )

You want to be a real champ, should do a step by step DETAILED faq on how to compile this....

Actually the wallet was more complicated for me too... it took me some time to understand I had to use windows console (and not mingw shell) to compile the package and the wallet... (not mentioning all the compilation issues while building the wallet...)

But for this there is already a file in doc directory "windows-built.txt" where every single step to build the environnement and compile sgminer are given... Last time I needed to remake a working mingw environnement it took about half an hour (mainly because of some network problem...).

Actually, I saw in the latest sgminer version that they added support to visual studio, I will certainly move to that (easier than grep to find a reference to a function across the build...  ;D)

Cool miner!
X11
7950 - 3.7 Mhash/s
280x - 4.3 Mhash/s
270 - 2.5 Mhash/s

X15
7950 - 2.8 Mhash/s
280x - 3.2 Mhash/s
270 - 1.8 Mhash/s

Can it switch on fly to X11/X13/X15 algos?
Can anybody list config file here?

How did you get X15 working with this release?
