Title: Homebrew ASIC miner
Post by: Reclaim3r on June 22, 2014, 04:55:29 AM
Title says all. Are their any tutorials on making your own ASIC miner ? I see plenty of chips laying around the place on e-bay and amazon, I was just wondering if it was feasible to build a miner from scratch.
I'm not interested in making the chips themselves ( from what I've gathered, it's PRETTY expensive  ;) )

Avalon boards are open source. You can send the gerber files in to any competent PCB manufacturer and have the boards, and the solder mask template, made for a 'reasonable' price.

Considering that you also have to source the surface mount components and connectors, it gets more expensive than buying them outright quick unless you're buying in massive bulk.

FWIW, if you know your electrical engineering the designs have a lot of room for improvement, and if you don't mind spending a little more, you can invest in better caps, resistors, and PCB making your own.
