Title: Identity theft?
Post by: ihaveafuckinggun on June 23, 2014, 01:54:13 AM
Well currently I got my social security card stolen, I was wondering what can someone do with my ssn, date of birth and mothers maiden name?
And how do I find out if anyone is using it?

To find out if anyone is using your identity, pull your credit reports from Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. See if any new account activity has been going on. Usually to open new lines of credit, one would need more information that that -- but there are, of course, ways for identity thieves to get that information as well.

Damn, good luck with that. I don't think it's enough to steal identity, but I would watch your reports closely. Order them every month or two to be safe. And if you see sometime, file a police report and start disputing.

if it falls into the hands of irresponsible it would be a lot that can be done, because most of the data security using a personal ID and especially mother maiden name, as well as fast do you block all bank accounts and take care of back to prevent unwanted

Thanks for answering how to prevent it but what can they most likely do with it?

Once they have your identity they can access pretty much a lot of your bank funds and steal them mostly and do credit fraud in your place.

They can do all kinds of stuff, but if you lock your credit they'll flag your info as stale and probably not do anything with it.  Call all 3 credit agencies and have them put a credit alert on you account.  They actually require a police report for this which I find incredibly stupid, but it works.  I used to get pre-approved for any credit card.  Now all my applications are denied instantly until I call in hehe.

The worst thing would be medical fraud.  Ask you insurance company what to do.
