Title: Cortex7 - Bitcoin Trading Robot Software - Windows, Linux, Mac, Android.
Post by: Cortex7 on June 24, 2014, 02:04:20 PM
Hello fellow Bitcoin Traders.

I am hard at work developing Cortex7, a trading client for Bitcoin.

https://www.cortex7.net

It works with various exchanges and has a native code signed installer for many Operating Systems.

The interface is being designed to work well with desktop using mouse/keys, touchscreen tablets and even TV boxes (using joypad).

https://www.cortex7.net/gfx/relaxing_600x400.jpg

The idea is to have an app that can run 24/7 and just be used for trading, to give you some perspective: for testing I am using a cheap 7" Android tablet in a wall holster that is on 24/7 like a nice clock/trade station, it is constantly trickle charging, it gives alerts and notifications and can talk the realtime price out etc.

https://www.cortex7.net/gfx/bitcointalk/1.jpg

The initial public release will be in some months. I am starting this thread while still in development mode to let you experienced Bitcoiners see it first, any questions, feedback or suggestions are welcomed in this thread.

P.S. Thank you bitcointalk forum, for allowing users like me to post service support threads on this great forum.

Hi,

It's not open source. The clients is written in ShiVa3D, a multiplatform game engine, which has quite an obscure language and toolset.

Serverside is all PHP, but that's fairly simple, mainly just a daemon harvesting trades from exchanges and VWAPing into 1 minute resolution dbase.

Users will pay a modest subscription fee to use premium features.

There will also be a free version.

I haven't worked out details like pricing and free/premium features yet.

Did your site went through a complete makeover?

Thanks for being patient :) I've managed to put quite a few hours a week into the new version after MtGox went pop.

Yes the site is all new, but kind of a placeholder, I think it will have a different look for final public release (when advertising starts). I've used templates with CSS so designer can do the facelift without reworking everything (old site was not).

In case anyone is wondering why I am no longer developing Cortex7:

I still am... :D  I started the new "Cortex7" account because I wanted the name to match the application.

Did you already talk to a frontend developer or have one in mind? If not, I might give a hand if you want.

Thanks! No versions available for download yet.

The first version I release publicly will be available to everyone.

Without subscribing it will only let you chart daily yahoo finance symbols, like "MSFT" or other.

I may be changing this in the future so the free version is ad supported and allows bitcoin charting and trading (without robots).

But for this I will need to upgrade the server because all bitcoin history data is harvested and stored on the server, and then it is transferred via PHP interface to the client as new data is needed.

This ad supported free bitcoin version is something that I'm seriously considering moving to after public release.

I do have room for 5 new beta testers (they get free 1 year keys after beta phase finished).

I only ask that they (beta testers) use the software and report bugs here.

By the term "use" I mean they should be active traders who might fire up the application at least a couple of times a week, ideally they should have a dedicated tablet/machine to run it on 24/7 and an active account on an exchange (with at least 0.01BTC in it)  this will help when we come to robot test/debug.

Anyone interested in becoming a beta tester for the new version?...  first 5 posts in this thread asking for beta access will become beta testers...

Please sign me up for the beta test.  I sure hope you do include bitcoin charting in the free version as that will get you more user adoption.   Do you need me to send you a PM?   Thanks in advance.

OK, create a new account here:

https://www.cortex7.net/form/register1.php

Then PM me your username and I will convert it to a beta account.

I don't want large userbase to start with, but once everything is stable then I may do free bitcoin charting for all exchanges, with in app advertising, probably in the form of a discreet text ticker running across the top of the app (no loud banners etc).

Hello,

Just downloaded the client and set up my Cortex7 account with api key and secret generated at BTC-e, but when I open the workspace an error message pops up telling me it can't access my account data on the exchange.   In my BTC-e account for the api keys,  I have checked the boxes for 'info' and 'trade' as well.   Any ideas?

thanks

Ok, now it can access the data, but if I go to the trading button and look at my account info, everything is in scientific notation format (9.97e-006 USD available)  My account at BTC-e currently has just fractions of amounts, could that be the problem?

Thanks for your help

Is the Cryptsy exchange supposed to be working yet?
Also, I've found that after creating a workspace if I then go on to create another, the exchange select wheel no longer scrolls properly for me using the Android version. Is this just me?

Hi Xangma,

Not yet, but sometime in 2014 all cryptsy pairs will be available (chart and trade):
https://www.cortex7.net/data/live/cryptsy_list.liv

I should probably remove it from the list for now though.

Also, I've found that after creating a workspace if I then go on to create another, the exchange select wheel no longer scrolls properly for me using the Android version. Is this just me?

Probably same for others, I will look into this, thx for reporting.

Thanks for the heads up.

Damn! that's a drag-n-drop build error mistake on my behalf. Mac version is the same. :-[

Only Win and Android are working on 1.03b.

I will fix it now, by updating the existing server files for 1.03b.

EDIT:
1.03b should be fixed now for nix/mac

Experimenting with a moving limit order bot with a bank of ~0.2 btc ...

Below you can see a test run.

The bot is raw without any stop loss strategy at the moment, and so it fell off a cliff half way through >:(, and then proceeded to smack its head on the rise at the other side of the canyon  :-\.

Stop loss could have reduced that damage by getting in and out some times (but not eliminated it).

https://www.cortex7.net/gfx/news/26_09_2014a.png

But despite that it managed to scrape in some coin. Using considerably less power than a miner.  ;D

Do you have read/write privileges for the file location specified in the popup box?

If not then can you arrange your linux account such that you do?

If you're on Android then it may cause it to quietly download, then you'll have to get Adobe reader free from Google Play store to open the downloaded file which should be on the bottom Android taskbar.

I will see if I can convert it to HTML easily, it's not good for users to perceive a dead end like that.

It's been running (robot trading BTCe) on a ubuntu laptop for >72 hours with zero memory leaks.

105b has changed the default disk cache path for linux:

It now sets up the cache root in the application directory, the same directory as the program file. So provided you have read/write access to that it should be fine.

<105b was trying to save to system docs path that it got from the OS.

I don't know what the problem was but I entered Google Chrome settings page and pressed "Reset Settings" (Restore settings to their original defaults).

Now the PDF can be downloaded in Chrome (for me at least).

But I've noticed Chrome still can't download the client executable files. ???

Trying to download the clients will just fail quietly, and then when you exit chrome its process quietly hangs.
You can't open new chrome instance without forcing old process to end.
C'mon Google... your devs should spend less time sipping lattes in colorful beanbag chairs and more time debugging chrome  ::)

There is only a way to check for a newer version in the app:

APP SETTINGS -> CORTEX7 VERSION -> CHECK FOR NEW VERSION

User is responsible for doing the update.

NOTE: With this release (105b) you will have to manually uninstall the old version first. Future releases will uninstall automatically when you try and install the new version.

Hi, I am trying to test the trading robot with no success. I've set up my btc-e account correctly (I can see my funds on Cortex7), but the program has been running for 2 days and made no order. Obviously, the bank amount is less than my total funds and the robot has the enabled flag.
I've noticed that the x axis on the graph (time) ends 2 hours after the current time (if now it's 14:00 PM, the graph ends at 16:00PM), perhaps that could affect the robot.
What I am missing?
Thanks!

You can make the chart time be your local time by changing the hour offset in:
CHART SETTINGS -> LIVE CHART -> HOUR OFFSET

But the chart time being incorrect should not stop the bot from trading. The chart time is only for the users eyes.

Q1.
Are you able to create a limit order through the trade panel?:
TRADING -> CREATE LIMIT ORDER

Q2.
Is your robot trade amount >= 0.01 BTC, the minimum on BTCe?

Q3.
If yes to both above then could you take a look in the log file after leaving the bot to run for 10 minutes.
The log file is in: APP SETTINGS -> SYSTEM LOG -> SHOW LOG

That may shed some further light on the problem.

I cant get a thing out of this programme. Would be pretty good if you had a basic setup user guide. An easy step
thing just to get up and running. Im met with a blank screen with a message that asks for some kind
of code. I can see no codes or anything related codes on your website.

There's a "Getting Started" section in the user manual:
https://www.cortex7.net/docs/index.html

This is what you need to do:

Quote
Binding the Client App to Your Account.

You need to bind your Cortex7 client application to your Cortex7 account held on the Cortex7 server. You only need to do this once:

1.
Obtain your NETCODE from your online  Cortex7 account (https://www.cortex7.net/form/login)

2.
Start up your Cortex7 client application.

3.
Open menu panel:
Menu Panel: App Settings

4.
Tap menu item:
Subscription Status

5.
Tap menu item: CODE to enter the keyboard.

6.
Type or paste your NETCODE into the keyboard and press "ENT".

7.
Now press the "VALIDATE NET CODE" menu item.

8.
You should be greeted and told about your subscription status.

9.
Press the "OK" button.

No probs, and thanks for the feedback.

As a developer it's very easy to assume that users know all about it already. It's difficult to look at the whole thing through "clean eyes".

I need to restructure the app a little... If user not registered then popup clear instructions about what needs doing next.

A few weeks back I spent ages trying to work out how to get API keys in Kraken, I wrote to support and they said, "just click this tab...". I did not see it before.

No, but it's something I would like to add.
Any thoughts on what it should be like are welcomed.

Hi,

I decided to test your app on Android and so far I really like it. To unlock the full functionality I did a 1-Day subscription as I was under the impression this would only start ticking when the application went to release status.

From the subscription page:

Quote
You can gain access to the full latest beta functionality by purchasing any of the subscription plans below.

When Cortex7 leaves beta phase and reaches a fully functional* stable release state (2015); your purchased subscription will begin to tick down

Today I logged in and it says subscription expired.

Am I missing something? Don't get me wrong I don't want to freeload on you but I would have liked to get to grips with the software before signing up for a longer period of time.

Thanks in advance for a heads up.

My bad! I've now removed the text you quoted from the user account panel.

Anyone who purchased a subscription ( smaller than 2 months ) before today then PM me your Cortex7 account user name and I will load you with 2 months subscription to compensate for the error.

Great program! Through lots of testing I've found a few bugs. I can't load any charts, only create a new one. Also, if you create a new one with the same name as a previous one, it has the settings of the previous one already ...
Also, sometimes the bot stops putting in trades, flipping between bots in the robot selection toggle used to reset it, but I'm not quite sure how to replicate this.
Thanks =D

Hi Xangma,

Thanks for your report!

It's a bug if it can't load existing charts.

OK, when you try and load a previously created chart what happens?

Could you possibly:

[1]
open up cortex7 fresh.

[2]
try and load an existing chart.

[3]
open the program log file using APP SETTINGS -> SYSTEM LOG -> SHOW LOG

[4]
copy the log file to clipboard and post here.

NOTE if the clipboard copy doesn't work for you then could you possibly look for any orange warning/error entries.

The bot only puts in a trade if one of the channel lines has changed value, so in price channel when the channels stay straight for a long time it may not put in the first trade for a while. The TOGGLE BID ASK should always force it to put in the initial trade though?

I hope to get it running well for you. ;)

Hi Xangma,

I looked at the log file you PMd me.

It seems the program may not have privilages to write to its workspace location? Could you possible try running it with higher privelages.

Or perhaps your anti virus is stopping it, in which case you might make an exception for it to have write access to just its workspace location and sub directories (location appears at the top of the log).

Problem sorted, I had to white list the Cortex7 server with block chain.

Are there going to be any more updates to the software any time soon?  I run Cortex7 in Linux and still see a few bugs.  When I have my screen maximized, and am typing in any other window... Cortex7 responds to keys pressed.  Also.. what's the deal with having to switch the BOTS from ASK to BUY mode.  Shouldn't the bot know to do this when it needs to?  Just haven't seen anything on this in quite some time.

I just renewed the SSL certs on cortex7.net site, I let it lapse because I've been mad busy with contract work on non bitcoin stuff.
So everything is back up for free charting etc with good HTTPS.

Any ideas?

thanks

Yeah, I recommend having a dedicated box to just run a 24/7 tradebot on.

I'm using a $30 second hand Android tablet velcrod to my bedroom cabinet, it makes a nice room clock with live BTC chart and modest power consumption that also bot trades on BTC-E 24/7.
