If they do that I think its allowed to create a new topic in response to that thread that they locked.

When you see a locked scam topic, the best thing to do is click "report to moderator" and give a comment. Mods will take a look and if it is a scam, they will delete the topic and ban the member.

If there's a scammer, make a scam accusation thread and report to a mod and leave a negative trust rating
There's no need to remove the lock topic feature when there are plenty of ways to catch out a scammer even when the thread is locked

JUST BECAUSE the thread is locked doesn't mean nobody can see it

Wrong!  Scammers are not banned, they just end up having negative feedback left for them so they have a red trust rating.

If the new trust levels will be similar to the SMF ones, then I think Member + should have the ability to lock threads in specific categories.

Thanks for the link. Everybody should try to report it such scams as soon as possible and it is best to avoid trading with -vely trusted people.

I am a Member but I think it is better to give the ability to Sr.Members and Hero Members.
Kindly,

I don't think the moderators would like that too much they would be spammed by "this is a scam" reports which is not what the report feature is for.

I think it should be allowed for Mods, and Senior & Hero Members. That way non-scammers can still use the feature, and mods can lock topics.

Mods do not delete scams and AFAIK they do not ban scammers either. The forum uses a caviet emptor policy (buyer beware).

The OP is correct in saying that a lot of people are creating threads selling something and then locking it so no one can question then in a public setting.
