I think there should be a discussion on how to treat new members of this forum. I'll speak out of my personal experience. I'm sorry that i have to point you out Vod!

I'm very disappointed on how I got treated here when I joined.

Started off by be making a loan request, where I offered my id and such. Okay, understandable the lender wants collateral. But what do i get in return just by making a thread regarding me wanting to loan some btc ? Well, yeah, I got my profile abused by User: VOD

I know that this user is trusted here and has a great reputation, but that doesn't give him the right to fuck over my profile like that? Or does it?

Without getting any response from him in over 2 weeks. So decided to create this discussion to be sure of that people get treated right.

People should be treated nicer when they join. I've seen several of examples of vod being a one minded man. He stamples some people bad without knowing them.

he's being proactive in identifying scammers. there's little point calling out a scammer after they got the coins, don't you think?

You wouldn't be suspicious of a brand new member to a forum who only had the intention of borrowing money?

I'm also willing to bet you had no collateral to offer either. IDs can be faked or stolen.

After registering your account and waiting 12 minutes, the very first thing you do is to make a post asking for a 0.017 BTC loan.
And you didn't provide any collateral or IDs, but just your FB page...

I don't know if you were going to scam or not, but IMHO it is suspicious.

My experience here so far has been pretty nice. There are a lot of people willing to share advice and information that has all ready saved me from some mistakes.

Spend some time in the beginner forum and read a LOT. You can get alot more value from that than a loan that you might not ever pay back.      

There was no abuse on Vod's part though. The trust system is not a concrete way of identifying a scammer but merely a guide for other members to voice out issues concerning trust. You registered a new account specifically for the purpose of borrowing Bitcoins from people who neither know you nor have conversed with you before. That's a solid red flag, and it was noted. If you joined any other discussion board and your first act was to borrow money, you would be treated the same way there as you were here.

Try walking into a bank and opening a new account, while you are doing that, ask them for a loan.  Lets see what kind of response you get.  You magnify that on an anonymous forum... you should be getting the idea about now.

Personally, I think new members should have to pass some kind of test to prove they've read the board rules.  Getting a little tired of new users asking about the activity rating.  If you would have read the top post stickied in this forum, you wouldn't have to ask the question.

If I was in the default trust, I'd be doing the exact same thing as Vod.

This. I guess every now and again vod will negative someone who is honest but just a bit naive and that's unfortunate, but I'm sure 99.9% of the time he's justified in doing so. I think without the people looking out for potential scammers and neg-repping them there would be a helluva lot more successful scams round here.


Same. Not being on the trust list does little good though. Shame there isn't other ways to give your feedback even a little weight.

Rather a shame that it only catches the easy to spot scammers rather than the big time guys.

Any newbie asking for a loan should be treated as suspicious regardless of their intent. The feedback isn't saying you are a scamnmer but that you should exercise caution when dealing and this is true. Most people who ask for loans as a newbie have no intention to pay it back.

The big time guys will be smart so it's harder to catch them or see what they're doing. Loan scammers are small fry.

It is true that you haven't get the loan and haven't scammed anyone yet, but what you did (asked for loan in the first post) does shows that it is likely you were coming to bitcointalk for suspicious reasons.

Stop whining and register a new account to start over. Learn from this and don't ask for a newbie loan without collateral. Think about it, would you lend money to a complete stranger on the street?

With regards to the question "How should new members be treated?" The answer is with suspicion. Vod was correct here.

If you end up staying here for more than 6 months and become part of the community you will find yourself agreeing with his actions when you notice all the scammers and panhandlers coming here.  You joined less than 4 weeks ago.  Had you joined 6 months ago and been here a while you would understand.
