Title: Is Avalon Dead?
Post by: Dizzee on June 24, 2014, 06:26:32 PM
I made the mistake of buying 3 Avalon 290 single modules.
I have struggled to get them connected... and failed.
One thing I've noticed is nobody wants to offer assistance or give advice.
Now the avalon-asic.com website is offline.
There has been no activity in their support irc channel for days (since I have joined)

So much question is.. is Avalon dead... are my modules useless?

They most probably have no support, because it is not cost effective.

all of which I have done repeatedly and very little is support for Avalon3

For the record there I'd very little I can do to help with avalons as we know so little about what is going on when they go wrong. Pretty much every error will appear as a socket error.

I got no new messages yet, so I'll help where I can here. Are you able to SSH into your Avalon3's?

That's the latest, I was actually going to point you at the previous revision, flash that in, and work forward from there. (Last known stable, according to my info)

Flash the latest, without upgrading your cgminer yet.

Make sure it works.

then and only then GIT Kano or Con's latest revision of CGminer

now the pain of accessing 192.168.0.100 (I seem to only be able to access this by expanding changing router ip address range to 192.168.0.xxx)

done but still not working... at least the Avalons are not firing up and still not doing anything.. seems like the cgminer isn't active something is changed!!

WORKING... don't know what's changed but they are working... (only thing that's different is that today I'm at a different address with a different machine.. and had to reload everything  from scratch again..

Much thanks o/
Still, though, Avalon support is pants!
I have gone from knowing nothing of Linux to knowing next to nothing
(now for the tweaking:confused:)

I have a 290GH module working just fine. I installed most recent firmware onto an SD card for the pi, plugged it all in. Have it OC'd to 305-315GH depending on heat, runs like a champ.
ehash.com is their official site now
the email works fine, when I had some initial learning curve problems, I had a full email conversation going on w/ like 3-4 emails a day, back and forth. All questions answered.
When the price was lower on these modules, they were a great buy!

Feel free to pm me and Ill try to answer ur questions!

perhaps they just avoided my conversation because it said the modules were borked.
wanna share some of that knowledge? had mine running for 8 hours now but the longest "elapsed time" in the status tab is no longer than a few minutes (that I've noticed).
I can hear them restarting every few minutes.
My pool says I'm generating +35% invalid shares (and rising) (was 15% when I left alone last night).
I have a DH% of 4.7, 8.9, and 11.8 and the literature suggests not going beyond 2%
So any tips would be awesome, thank you

Well, what controller are  u using? .. if its a rpi , make sure to use a powered hub and not plug avy into rpi directly.
Second, use the 5.26 firmware and put it on SD card for rpi
3rd, what pool u using? these things dont work w/ p2pool at all
4th, make sure there arent 2 instances of miners listed under the status page, if there are that causes cgminer restarts ever 10minutes.
5th, max temp on these is around 60C ... so make sure to have the fan really fucking high
6th, these require at least 425w @ 310GH
