Title: Which one? Litecoin vs. Bitcoin
Post by: tom10122 on February 27, 2012, 09:00:16 PM
So all im doing is processor mining(dont say that it sux i know)

On bitcoin mining i get at least 12MHashes]

On Litecoin mining i get 6-11 KiloHashes

Which one is more worth it ? Im  just going to convert litecoins to btc anyway fyi.

Don't bother with Bitcoin CPU mining.
That 12 MHash/s will take like 5 months to earn you a single bitcoin.

Dude you are seriously wasting your time. At like $10 per year where are you going with this? This is not worth the effort and you will kill your CPU way before you make enough money to pay for another one. Take our advice and don't CPU mine period.

I actually read your post.  ;D

Mine Litecoin and then convert to Bitcoin. Litecoin has a higher profitability on CPUs.

What was unclear about my post?
You asked: A or B?
I answered: not A.

Is it really worth getting involved with litecoins? Is it easy to exchange currency's with it? From what I could find online it seems to be just starting. I couldnt find a market to even exchange the litecoins.

btc-e.com and vircurex.com are two that I know of.
very easy to speculate as there can be 10-50% swings on some days

Here's what I would do if I were you (assuming I had no extra funds to invest):  Mine litecoins.  Keep em, save em, store em.  Take $5 and buy 1 Bitcoin, or (in about 2-3 weeks) take 100 mined litecoins and sell them for .1 BTC.  Save that, and store it.

Then wait 10-20 years and see if you're wealthy.

what he said lol.
If i were you I would stick to mining Litecoins.
Save them and maybe in 2 years they will be worth something.

Hehe, that's sort of what my policy is right now. All I have for bitcoin mining is an old Nvidia GeForce GT 240 at 15–20 MH/s with p2pool, so I'm not going to make a ton of bitcoins any time soon, but what the heck. :P It almost seems that CPU-mining Litecoins and then trading them for Bitcoin is more profitable at this rate (old GPU, but fairly recent mid-range CPU), though the high variance could be fooling me. What I intend to do is trade some Litecoin for Bitcoin (especially if Litecoin's price happens to rise), but keep a little of both. Then wait a few years and see what happens. :)

I think it's not clever to make so much branches of bitcoin.

Its still in the early stages of development http://litecoin.org/ (http://litecoin.org/)  :)
I mine Litecoins currently but very few people have gone into business with Litecoins as the sole currency of exchange.
Most people will just exchange it for bit coins or hold onto them http://www.litecoinpool.org/charts (http://www.litecoinpool.org/charts) bottom chart shows current price rates (1litecoin = 0.00170 bitcoins 3/1/2012)

We started LiteBit to create an online community for Litecoins.  We're even promoting our 1st Annual Litecoin March Madness NCAA Basketball Tourney right now.  Still weeks away before they select the seedings but plenty of time to join our private Litecoin group over at Yahoo! Sports.

We also are trying to promote all the Bitcoin and Litecoin projects we can find.  We offer this free and most of the time are directing back to Bitcointalk for the relevant forum topics surrounding each project.
