Title: 100 BTC: What to buy
Post by: Crindon on June 26, 2014, 10:26:02 PM
If you had 100 BTC, what altcoins would you buy and in what proportions?

e.g.

100 BTC:

50 BTC leave as BTC
10 BTC METH
10 BTC SC
10 BTC VEIL
10 BTC ITC
10 BTC MYR

or:

50 BTC as BTC
10 BTC BC
10 BTC CINNI
10 BTC CRYPT
10 BTC VRC
10 BTC XC

Let get this straight,
you have an extra 100 BTC and intend on dumping it onto generation 1.0 $hitclone mining coins?   Can this be written off on your 2014 taxes as charity?   ;D

80% btc
10% monero
2% razor
2% super
2% dark
2% crypt
2% bbr

Later on I would probably in crease monero to 15%.  Long term btc and monero, rest is just speculation plays

Yes this is the truth.  The reality of cryptos that your best investments are likely going to be upcoming 2.0 coins.  The world doesn't need another 1.0 mining clone and yet a dozen new ones come out each day and the developer's sockpuppets promote them on these sort of threads. . .  naturally they must promote their coin because otherwise the professional miners (many of whom are millionaires with $5000+ in dedicated hardware) need suckers to buy their bitclone / $hitclone.

Buy 100 BTC.

Probably the safest move. People are going to just answer with whatever coin they happen to be holding, so threads like this tend to be silly. I'm assuming the OP is just trolling/having fun anyway.

But playing this game honestly, if given 100 btc out of the blue.... hmm...

If Drk decreases in price a bit, I'd pick up a spare node or two. Even if the price stays where it is, it'd be income off the nodes for a while.

I'd save some for Ethereum. Maybe 10-20 btc.

The rest I'd leave in BTC, or perhaps cash out a bit and invest it in stocks/mutual funds.

I would keep 80 BTC safely in cold wallet or put into multiple secured wallets.

BC = VERI = CINNI = VERT = past hype.

I will play the remaining 20 BTC with new hype coins. Will put 1-5 btc on each potential coin with good developer.

Given literally hundreds of coins and a handful of mining algorithms, there's a few, almost-certain conclusions we can draw pending the continued pervasiveness of crypto-currencies in general:

1)  Mining algorithms will be hierarchical in popularity.
2)  There will be one, possibly two, or (very) unlikely three clear-cut volume leaders for each mining algorithm.  Any more than this suggests the mining algorithm itself is likely either a new introduction or is unpopular.
3)  At least for now, fad currencies will likely continue to pop up from time to time which you might get lucky on.
4)  New currencies provide the largest potential gains and losses in the short run (mostly 'cause no one knows what the f*** they're doing).
5)  A cryptocurrency that survives long-term may not necessarily be the best coin technically, but its specifications *must* be adequate enough to be gain popularity by reason.  This essentially implies that the coin's developers are critical to a coin's continued success.

So, with 100 BTC, maybe I'd do something like...

1)  80% BTC.
2)  10% LTC
3)   3%  My secret
4)   2% DOGE
5)   2% NXT
6)   2%  DARK
7)   1%  XRP...lol no rly

Title: Re: 100 BTC: What to buy
Post by: Hunterbunter on June 27, 2014, 12:13:58 AM
I would buy a couple thousand DRK and setup masternodes.

The rest...regularly buy small portions of DVC - like 1 btc a week for a year. It's a well established and very secure coin (3 years, merged mining), funds open source development and creative commons (devtome), and once it reaches critical mass should have a massive payoff (its very cheap at the moment).

If you can't rationalise an investment based on your own research and comfort to hold for over a year, simply don't do it... (I'm not insinuating you can't though, just trust your own judgement)
Unless you like gambling, in which case gamble on something with odds, like a horse, rather than a whale infested cash cow.

Alternatively, foster new startups, kick start projects, back development projects you feel are beneficial.

If you must go for an alt coin, go for the one where you know the whales, and their intentions; or where you are the whale..

Keep 95 BTC.

Use 5 BTC to play with hot weekly shitcoins (like BC, CINNI, XC, DRK, CRYPT, VRC, RZR etc when they get attention). Remember that none of those are a good hold long-term (> 1-2 months), which makes "investment" term obsolete. It's just a speculation. Wanna know what's the shitcoin of the next week? I won't tell you of course, but you need to study markets.

Careful about Darkcoin:
Here is the things that you need to know before buying.

Let's take a look at the first 5 h of Darkcoin (XCoin at that time)...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4589219#msg4589219 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4589219#msg4589219)
Edufield said (after failed launch) that he will wait the next day to launch DRK (XCoin at that time) it is 11 pm.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4591407#msg4591407 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4591407#msg4591407)
Edufield disregard windows wallet and daemon and hurry up his launch, presumably to not have windows miners on board.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4592827#msg4592827 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4592827#msg4592827)
Edufield say he added four nodes for the launch at 4 am (5 hours later, despite his promise to wait). The 4 nodes from Edufield are 3 amazons AWS + another unknown (whois IP). Launch started at 3h54 am.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4593601#msg4593601 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4593601#msg4593601)
Edufield said the github version was not updated, nobody could compile and only Edufield was able to mine until that time. It is 5.09 am and Edufield instamined alone 1153 block at 500 DRK + 60 block at reward 277 = 593120 DRK for him alone in about 1 hour.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4593987#msg4593987 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4593987#msg4593987)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4594096#msg4594096 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4594096#msg4594096)

From this list of nodes, at 8h34 am (4h40 after launch) there were 50 Amazon AWS node and 50 microsoft cloud computing instamining DRK (checked using IP whois service). This is 100/124 nodes using cloud computing to instamine DRK. We are at block 2870 and block reward is 500. From block 1153-1729 block reward is 277. After that it is 500 again hence 2294 block at 500 + 576 at 277 = 1306552 DRK (worth about 13M$ now) were instamined in less than 5 hour by Edufield and coworkers using about 100 cloud mining instances. Edufield himself instamined in not even 5 h from 600K to 1169K DRK ((1306K-600K)*100/124 + 600K) depending how many of the 100 cloud mining instance were its own. All this while having purposefully set the difficult ridiculously low and block reward 100 times what it is now.

From 6M$ - 13M$ in 5 h, Edufield did some lucrative work here!

Edufield is nominee for the Master Scammer 2014 award!

BTC, Monero, Darkcoin, LTC,(any coin older than 6-12 Months with big community is not bad) all these are pretty solid but with that much you could try to invest in some services. Like you buy 30 BTC DRK and invest 10 BTC for an developer who can solve/help with current Masternode problem. Stuff like this might really help your investment. I study at a technical university and there is alot of people out there who would quit their summer job and work on project like the one I mentioned for example...but that was just an example....
I put a little money I had in HBN for example and it is already paying off bigtime. I think 100btc would be a way to big investment for such a small market but I would look into that or NVC and put 5 BTC in it just for fun.
Just browse the altcoin threads and see what you like yourself and decide yourself. There is so many scammers around they might want to talk you into some serious shit.
you could write an investment journal like one guy did with HBN(I did what he did when I read it and I made out of 1 BTC investment 6 BTC in no time) It would be interesting how your investment is doing and how your strategies work out.

Anyways good luck man.

Anyone suggesting that DRK is a scam is either envious or clueless. NXT's success shows that an instamine (100% premine in NXT's case) is utterly meaningless. All that matters is features. If DRK continues to deliver, no one will care about how it was mined. Except the same losers who continue to (ineffectively) FUD.

I would keep BTC or maybe put 35% in LTC and 5% in doge, so you can be safe enough with that. Keep at least 60% in BTC and you will be fine in 3 years time. Don't go for new shit coins, they are worth 0 and they will be worth 0, remember that.

Are you buying these to HODL for the future, or is this a day trading move?

If its daytrading, then I would go

65 in btc
20 in ltc
and the rest in cloakcoin.

If its long term,

Then I would say

75 in btc
25 in ltc

and retire in 10 years!
