Title: Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO images
Post by: jake262144 on March 01, 2012, 01:29:53 AM
are now publicly available (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/iso).
Coupled with AMD drivers (http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Windows8ConsumerPreviewDrivers.aspx)(1), it could make a free Windows-based mining platform.

Anyone interested in playing with this?

Notes:
(1) Latest version of AMD drivers for Windows 8 Preview doest not support hd7000 series cards yet. 7xxx owners please stay tuned, update should be available within a couple of weeks.

Hardware = 6770, 935 MHz OC (850 base) , 300 MHz UC (1200 base)
Miner = CGMiner 2.0.2, default settings, intensity=4 (process was tuned to use one core and priority was set to realtime)

To change the SDK's I used I put the opencl.dll file in the cgminer folder.
When the Mhashes current value in CGMiner stayed at the same value for 3 seconds or so I screenshoted it.

Can this consumer preview of Windows 8 be installed to a USB flash drive? I know it's supposed to be a feature come retail.

It's called Windows To Go (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_To_Go) and will probably not be a feature of the consumer versions (i.e. it will probably be for the Enterprise version only)
