Title: Bitcoinica fail
Post by: Otoh on March 01, 2012, 05:51:40 PM
I've been waiting now over 4 hours for a Bitcoin transfer out of Bitcoinica & it's still pending, no response from their support & now the site's down - great! Anyone else getting this?

Plus even when the site was up it's impossible to cancel & try to send by say Mt.Gox code or from somewhere else instead

Also down for me.  Seemed to go down immediately after I submitted a limit order...maybe I caused it  :o

I'm sure it was me what caused it  ;) put in a largish withdrawal request & it must have given it a seizure, then 4 hours later it's gone tits up, bloody bitcoinickie

edit: also had just made a largish US$ deposit with them at the same time, that of course was processed instantly, sure know how to spoil my day  >:(

We all have being "zhoutonged"?

Strangely, before the crash there where a lot of "starfishs", and the usually huge spread had narrowed a lot...

yer, good luck with that few minutes, try it & it takes for bloody ever & don't expect Bitcoinica to let you know when if ever they may feel like getting around to doing it either  >:(

yet again Bitcoinickie goes Hotel California's on your Bitcoins

perhaps best they get registered in Somalia or which ever failed state is failing most atm

$100,000s of client assets & zero customer support - unfuckingbelievable  ::)

still nothing at all from support to tell me wtf is going on, can I use Mt.Gox codes to withdrawal or what...

No one is forcing clients to put their money in Bitcoinica.  If you don't like their customer service, don't user their service.  I don't.

great, well thanks Bitcoinica for messing me around for 8 hours wtg for client appreciation, after the transaction was arbitrarily cancelled with no notice to me at all & having been pending for 8 hours the pending cancellation part thankfully was swift & I then used the Mt.Gox BTC code withdrawal at 500 BTC a time (which seems to be all that they can cope with without melting down for a day) to send the coins to Gox & then sent them as a normal Bitcoin transfer which Gox managed instantly, now waiting for them to show up in blockexplorer...

edit: I'm verified at both Mt.Gox & Bitcoinica & my transfer from Gox cleared swiftly - still no explanation from Bitcoinica of why they first failed to process my transfer, that they state in their terms takes only minutes, and then why they cancelled it about 8 hours later without my permission or even having the professional courtesy to inform me of this or how I might re-initiate it in a way that they would actually process - quite unbelievable

my friend that I opened a Bitcoinica account for & funded has been waiting days now for any response from their customer service re a perceived 50 BTC discrepancy in her balance

much could have been handled better imo

Bitcoinica seems to be hosted by Rackspace.  Relieved they're not using Linode too..

Quote
On 2013-03-01 at 6:30 UTC, our "hot wallet" hosted at Linode and containing over 10,000 BTC was emptied.  The unauthorized access is consistent with that experienced by other bitcoin services, described by Linode as unauthorized access from Linode's "customer support interface".

Just a quick question...have you been asleep to what's been happening against Bitcoinica from Linode?

I'm surprised he even bothers to keep it going today of all days.

I wasn't aware of it no, marked's post above was the first that I've heard of the issue which I've only read just now apart from one earlier post above by bitcoinBull that mentioned Rackspace hosting & Linode but didn't make clear what the problem was & I didn't do a search on it as by then my transfer problem had been solved & I needed to sleep literally

edit: up to date on it all now, well well well Bitcoin wild west show or what, in other news cheap Bitcoin buying op  :P

& my apologies to ZT if I was over harsh about the service as I wasn't aware of the larger picture then - wishing you well going forward

New anti-theft withdrawal policy. 1 hour per 1 BTC.

that's the method that didn't work for me all of yesterday & the reason for this thread - I'd recommend taking funds out via Mt.Gox BTC code & keep them under 500 BTC per request, worked fine for me  about 24 hrs ago even at the height of the Limode problems being realized publicly

Thanks for the tip.. but its a little late..

I've already transfered, and they are gone, but not in my possession ...  and they have not hit the block chain..

So...  ???

well seems like Bitcoinica survived the Linode Hax tsunami hopefully & they are probably now processing any significant withdrawals manually from off line wallets or something, delays are to be expected & they're probably too busy fire fighting atm & getting new stuff in place to update much if at all, but after this test of fire I reckon that ZhouTong will most likely have leveled up in his game & Bitcoinica with him, certainly sounds like it from his posts so far
