As previous rumours suggested, GTX 680 will feature 1536 SP and 256-bit memory. However, contrary to rumours, NVIDIA has retained the shader hotclock, although the Kepler shaders could be significantly different from its Fermi counterparts which makes it difficult to predict performance. The core will be clocked at 705 MHz and the shaders at 1411 MHz, retaining the 2x shader hotclock from Fermi. GK104 significantly improves upon GF110/GF114's memory controller, setting a new record for reference memory clock at 6 GHz. This equates to a memory bandwidth of 192 GB/s - exactly the same as GTX 580 despite the narrower memory bus.

As we have witnessed from previously leaked PCB pictures, the GTX 680 will sport 4 display outputs - stacked dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort. GK104's die appears to be slightly smaller than Tahiti but significantly larger than Pitcairn. Two SLI connectors will enable upto 3-way SLI. However, the experimental stacked PCI-e power inputs may not make it to the final production graphics cards. GTX 680 will be 10 inches long, which is longer than GTX 560 Ti or HD 7870 but shorter than HD 7950 or GTX 570. The general visual appearance will be reminiscent of GTX 570, albeit more compact with a repositioned fan. The rear end will be similar to HD 5800 or HD 6900, with identical outputs and a blocked exhaust.

NVIDIA will reveal details about GTX 680 in an event on 12th March, with a hard launch rumoured for 23rd March - days after HD 7800's release.

So will this mine ?

If it does mine properly then I hit NIRVANA !

No more CPU bug BS, AMD SDK performance drop, need to have xserver active, 8 limit hardcoded ... ( WTF where they thinking over at FailMD ) !?

That remains to be seen.  But yeah I've always been an nVidia fan first and foremost, so if it can mine, I'll be all up ons.

It is not even about being a fan or not.

People that are fanboying for a specific brand are tools.

I buy whatever is best for my needs, regardless of the brand.

I am sick of having to choose only AMD GPUs for mining.

So many troubles etc.

So it sounds like they're going the many stream processors route too huh?

Again AFAIK this is supposed to be the mid-range card, right?

Yes. That is what it seems like.

I REALLY am hoping they come out with the 4608 shader monster.

Screw 7990. If I can boycott AMD for their crap drivers I will do it.

Really praying here that Nvidia is a decent miner !

More articles on OCN today are showing the specs to be pretty locked down to what the OP wrote.  Base clock of 1,000 MHz and boostable from there.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1228536/tpu-geforce-gtx-680-specifications-sheet-leaked

Article also said though that it might cost ~$550.  I suppose that'd put it in something like 7970 territory but suppose we'd have to see if it'd mine as well with an architecture reconfiguration.

Granted we all know how power can spike with an OC but a TDP of 200w is nice!

Yeah. Seems like Nvidia is pushing the OC envelope with default clock of 1 GHz while AMD stayed very conservative with default of 925.

Wonder why that is ...

Anyway, waiting for the 4608 shader dual-gpu monster from Nvidia. I think 7990 will have a hard time competing ;D

You're probably in for the long wait then. The supposedly 2000+-shader GK110 isn't coming until Q3/Q4, and it will be a massive chip most likely. It's possible a dual-GPU version of that won't come at all, or if it does, it's still a ways away.

Personally, I'd rather buy and mine now than wait for some *possibly* awesome card, which will or will not come just around the block reward halving. :)

If that monster arrives, I wont put it pass nvidia to retail it at $1000+ a card, they have done batshit crazy pricings on new releases.

I could see paying $1k for a card that put out 1.7~2GH/s, the 7990 will put out around 1.2~1.5@$850  but if the card does nvidia business as usual at "maybe" 600~800mh/s then it will be another fail for them... paying top dollar for a good mining card that does games is one thing, paying out the back side for just a good video game card is another. Heck... if the nvidia card @ 1K did the same performance as the $850 7990 it might still be worth it just so you can have a 16+ GPU's on a single mother board.

Even if it doesn't mine well, leaks are indicating that it outperforms Tahiti with a smaller die and lower power consumption. If the leaks prove to be true and it's priced under $600 it might cause a reduction in the price of the HD7970. Then again, supply might be so limited that no one can buy one.

I hope that it does mine well, because then I could fill this sucker up to the top with cards!

Yeah i suppose nvidia drivers that make the card overheat and die are better...  ::)

LOL, it's funny cause it's true!

Anyway, I just got my 7970 (replaced a pair of 6870's) And I'm perfectly happy with this thing. Mines faster, is quieter, way cooler than what was in there.

Also, where in the hell are you coming up with this 4608 shader card? A dual 680 would be 3072 shaders. I've seen SAPPHIRE post something about a 2304 shader 7970 (which was proven false... for the moment) and two of those would hit 4608, but that's still AMD.

The only reason I want Nvidia to come out with their cards is to ROFLstomp AMD in the gaming area, pushing prices down on AMD cards. I would rather gamers get NVidia cards and miners get cheap AMD cards. But thats just me.

the 4608 probably comes exactly from 7990 specs (?)
GTX 680 being the midrange, there will probably be a more powerfull GPU under the way, and with equal amount of SPs it might perform well enough to be a mining card.

The die size of GK104 seems to be in the area of 300-320mm^2. It's expected that nVidia still plans to release GK110 which would be in the range of ~500mm^2,so a dual version of that could be 4k+ shaders.

That's the hope man, we are all on the same boat.

i personally couldn't care less about nvidia ar amd let alone fighting for them as some people here seem to do... anyway, all i want is nvidia to screw amd so hard in the gaming department enough so i can buy some 7970s for 250$ ;)

Yeah. By the looks of it GTX 680 will trash the 7970 underclocked at 925 MHz ;)

Gamers buy Nvidia = AMD price drops for miners like you and me but I think the prices are fixed anyway ::)

i just buy what gives more bang for my buck

my last Nvidia card was a gtx 295 after that one its been only AMDs, better performance/$ IMO

but if this gtx 600 series are in fact as good as they are saying man i'd sure buy one or more, MY LOYALTY IS TO MY WALLET

My bang-for-the buck history goes 3dfx banshee, 3dfx 3000, Radeon 9000, Nvidia 5850 (free, Quakecon 2003), ATI 2900 (free, given), Nvidia 9600 GSO(free, Lanparty), ATI 4850, Nvidia GTX465(free, PDXLAN), Back to the 4850, ATI 6870 CFX(free, PDXLAN), Now ATI 7970.

Wow... I really didn't know how many cards I got free or won in my past... but that's stretching back to  damn near '96.

Anyway, the point is Use whatever kicks ass (all except the 2900, that thing was a dog.) Even the 5950 Was proven to kick ass when Doom 3 came out, unfortunately Half-Life 2 was a bigger game. But enough with this trip down memory lane.

The 7970 isn't underclocked. It's comes from ATI with a reference clock of 925. Yes, people hit 1100, 1200, even 1300 on the core doesn't mean thats what every card can do. We also don't know squat diddly about what Nvidia's new cards can do.

Things I've heard...

The 680 GTX is the GK104 core, not the GK110 core. No the 660 TI will walk over the 7970 with a GK104 core and it has a ramped up physics engine, but only on TWIMTBP* games.

850 core with 1700 hotclocked shaders (anywhere between 1024 and 1536) and now 1 Ghz core with no hotclocked shaders.

512Bit 5Ghz 2GB DDR5, no 384 bit and 5.5Ghz 3GB DDR5, no 256 bit 6Ghz 2GB DDR5.

Look... it's potentially better than the 7970... its newer... it should be. I want to know...

A) Is it cheaper than a 7970?
B) Can it run cooler than it??
C) Can it overclock faster than it?
D) Can it do a 32-bit integer right rotate operation in one clock tick?(reference) (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Why_a_GPU_mines_faster_than_a_CPU#Why_are_AMD_GPUs_faster_than_Nvidia_GPUs.3F)
E) Will a dual chip card be available (which would allow more than 8 GPU's to be driven in a system.)

Which, I think, is what we're all hoping for... more or less.
