Post by: cuddaloreappu on July 03, 2014, 03:14:26 PM
Anybody left your day job for bitcoin

Either for promotion and helping bitcoin to go mainstream like Andreas Antonopolus taking on bitcoin full time

or quitting your tyrannical or boring day job or college just because you got very rich with all those massive price gain.

Tell your experience

I left my software development job to be full time freelancer. Now I have become full time Bitcoiner :)

I did, but its temporary, for now.

Had to pick between have degree and learn, and to work or study about investments and better ways to earn money.

Plus with day job I would have less time to post, and trades would be less profitable

I was recently laid off because my non-profit was operating at a loss thanks to convoluted and ever-changing insurance industry red tape in the USA.

I am bleeding BTC to pay my rent and I'm looking for work in NYC, if you know of anything Bitcoin related (especially sales or entry-level IT) please shoot me a PM.

Or if you're Bitcoin-rich and value my contributions to this community: 1L41W2xu85hHBrdt1KkHPC4rSS9z1mY2BR

Thanks, folks.

I spend my days in my parents' basement, and I've recently started climbing out of the basement to check bitcoin prices.  Does that count?

I am planning to do so. As a benefit of my wife's job as a professor I get to take classes at her university for free. Once I learn coding and web design I plan to take the leap.

Nope, not that fortunate. Then again, I'm pretty content with what I have...At least for now.

Hell, I'll be honest, my goal is to retire by the time I'm 50. I'm still well ahead of schedule.

YYYY-MM-DD is customary in USA. It presumes to answer the thread title question.

Kind of.

A year and a half ago, I quit my day job which had made my life miserable. I had enough savings to live on for a year or two, plus a nice stash of Bitcoins, but nothing to retire on. I just wanted to focus on the fun things, which for me were studying more math and doing art, like music and theatre.

Going back to school was essential for me for a couple of reasons, besides enjoying the subject. I wanted some kind of daily (or at least weekly) schedule to stay productive, and I also had professional reasons to improve my qualifications. When people ask me what I do, I can tell them I'm a student, and I have a good reason for being one in my age.

In fact, for many years, I have been questioning the way people expect you to have a well-defined job that defines what you are, vs. leisure time for doing something essentially useless. I am considering my current situation as a social experiment, and I understand that people need places and times to go and do things, in order to stay sane and productive. I have basically turned this upside down, by doing art projects with other people, occasionally involving long hours and "business trips", and then do some trading and coding in my free time.

I was really just thinking of a gap year or two, but given the way Bitcoin has developed over the time, I'm not sure if I ever go back to work -- though running a small business might be a nice option to organize all the fun.

I left a job in the Law/Software field to join a bitcoin company. I love it here and we are all paid 100% in bitcoin.

When I resigned from the other job, they wanted me so bad that they counter offered but I declined.

They gave me one more counter-offer and that was the option to work 1-20 hours per week from home. I accepted.

I now work 2 jobs. 100% full time at my bitcoin job and part time from home for the Law job.

Best decision ever.

Sounds awesome. I especially like the part of doing part-time work. There are so many unemployed people, and so many people toiling long hours, we should try to distribute it more evenly.

Although there's nothing inherently wrong with unemployment either. It tells us that the engine we call society is now more fuel-efficient.

My "day job" is part-time and I spend a lot of it trying to pick up Bitcoin anyhow because of how much free time I have. That's when I'm not writing on a science fiction story that I intend to sell to a magazine.  :D

May surprise you guys or not but I've only ever been unemployed, sure it would be nice if I could get a part time job but right now I'm fully devoted to building up my two businesses, since I think I will have a much better chance than searching around for a job forever only to be paid minimum wage.

If things go to hell it may be worth getting a part time job since I can drive now but so far it's all gone a lot better than I expected.

I left my job as a project leader at an IT consultancy in Spain nine months ago. Didn't like the job much. Lots of bosses, few developers. Not healthy.

I am currently working on my own developing Bitcoin based solutions. I am learning a lot and I do feel I am doing useful stuff for the community. I have never been happier and more fulfilled.

This is called job satisfaction. Bitcoin has offered it to thousands of developers across the globe as a side benefit :)

I am not so experienced on BTC trading. So i think it is not the prefect time for me to take is as a profession. In my opinion only expert persons can take it as a full time profession.

I have finished university in this year and want to go to bitcoins world=) However, for good trading or mining i have no initial capital. So, i should go on a staff-job to get it. To my mind, it's too high risk to take out a loan in bank for btc-trading. Or somebody have done this high-risk step? If yes - what was a result?=)
Moreover, i dont know now what is better: invest in mining of trading? Mining is too slow, trading is too risky.

I stopped doing "day jobs" pretty quick in my life, only going back to repay some BDK.BND debt. Corporate and government regulations are just unbearable. You get a cut on your finger, and if you didn't pack your own bandaid, you have to go the the first aid kiosk, talk with the nurse, fill out an OSHA report, get grilled by some higher-up you've never seen before, then apologize and feel like a bag of dirt because you let your finger hit a sharp stair railing. Corporations just act completely inhuman once there's an SOP on everything and government regulators breathing down their necks.

I've kind of committed myself toward side jobs (especially remote work), and there's kind of a point in time where you do all these odd jobs, gigs, and seasonal work where you can't really produce a good resume for FT work - unless maybe you do side jobs where you end up picking up a lot of certifications. I can't fit it in one page or even make myself seem stable. The good news is that I know and have earned a liveable/"thriveable" amount with BTC side-jobs and they totally kick ass because I choose who I work for and with, usually when I work, and often even how much I want to work - and there's a lot of diversity, way more than shift work at a corporation could ever match. The bad news is just that you can't easily shift back to being "normal" if you want and work's never guaranteed, and it's really kind of taxing to explain 8 mostly crypto-niche and seasonal or intermittent side-jobs than just saying "oh, I'm a salesman at SuchandSuch."
