Title: wallet will not sync
Post by: okgogogo on July 04, 2014, 10:35:30 AM
Hi everyone

I have a bit of a problem with a wallet I decided to start using on a new computer.
So I did copy the dat file from my old computer and put it on a usb and then in to the BTC folder on my new computer everything was working great.
It looked like it found my first transaction I made so I know it was the right wallet etc. But after wating (it is saying it is updated) non of my other transactions will follow.

Could thi have anything to do with the fact that i did not have my wallet encrypted in my first transaction? If so what do i do to solve this problem?

Have a good day everyone  :)

What OS, windows or mac?
Need some more specific information to help you out

Usually you go to the bitcoin-qt content folder, find the default wallet.dat and replace it. IF this does not work, un-install bitcoin-qt (KEEP YOUR WALLET.DAT), re-install and try again. It could be a corrupt block in the bitcoin-qt folder which causes it to stop downloading blocks.

Did you try running the client with -rescan?

How old is the backup? Bitcoin core generates ~100 addresses in advances but does not show them to you.

Check the list of addresses -> File -> Receiving addresses

if you miss any, generate a "new" one.

This should not make a difference.

to find your wallet.dat on mac:
1. Right click Finder
2. Press Go to folder
3. Type: ~/Library/Application Support
4. Locate your bitcoin folder
5. Locate the wallet.dat ... either delete it or store it. I highly recommend storing it or importing the private key later just in case
6. Put your wallet.dat in there, and there you go

I also had this issue, every time I added a new wallet.dat I had to completely re-sync my bitcoin client which was a pain

I'm unsure if this occurs on windows, but it does occur frequently on mac. I switched to multibit as its much more lightweight and easy to import!

good luck

Remove everything but wallet.dat and reinstall.

Why do you keep suggesting such bullshit? Bitcoin core is perfectly capable of rescanning the blockchain without redownloading it.

Have you downloaded the whole blockchain and is there any node connection?

@OP, Could you post the results of a rescan please?

If your not sure how to run Bitcoin Core with the -rescan option read this:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=580346.msg6348096#msg6348096 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=580346.msg6348096#msg6348096)

It goes incredibly slow depending on what peers you're connected to.  If you're connected to some bum peers, sometimes it'll just stop until a new block hits the network.

I only connect to one node when I'm downloading the blockchain
