Remember that post we had at the beginning of June that related to a man who mistakenly sent 800 bitcoins to the wrong address? If you haven’t, check it out here.
In brief though, we had happened was a user by the handle of ‘TheDJFC’ has created a post on social sharing website Reddit.com explaining his epic failure. Not only did he send his bitcoins to the wrong address, he sent them to an address belonging to defunct bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox.
Interestingly enough, however, the story has an update — and it’s a good one.
‘TheDJFC’ took to Reddit on the 4th of July to update the community, and he’s said that he’s managed to recover his 800 BTC.
(Read the thread on Reddit here.)
According to the comments he made, it all came together with the help of a fellow Redditor, BTC China CEO Bobby Lee, the Bitcoin Foundation, a Law Firm in Tokyo, and would you believe it, even former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles.

As a thank you, TheDJFC has noted that he has donated 2.5 bitcoins to the aforementioned Redditor that helped him out, and adds that he will in the near future be making a donation to the Bitcoin Foundation.
When the story first broke last month, many in the community didn’t picture this type of ending. Sending money to Mt. Gox — after it collapsed no less — was thought to be like throwing money into the fire.
But thankfully for the TheDJFC, over $500,000 USD in the digital currency is in his possession again, and we’re willing to bet he’ll be triple-checking where he’s sending money to next time!

If this is all true then gr8 but why do I feel it was just an attempt by a company to increase their trust ratings.

It smells kind of fishy, I have my doubts about what actually went on. I'll read on the entire thing and see what I can come up with.

He was lucky he sent the 800btc to a known entity. If he sent them to another address, he would probably never see those again.

Or he could send do an invalid or not used address and the coins get lost forever.

That was an epic facepalm fail

Lucky guy. Next time before he sends BTC away, he learnt this lesson, and will check the receiver's address again and again.

yeah - or maybe try a 'test' send of a smaller amount, before committing to sending the whole lot.

Hey I trusted my. Fox too.  Just was too unstable to finish the paperwork.  Plus I thought it would go up to a million.  So I didn't sell at 10

What a nice end to the story. I read the original post and held no hope for him at all. I'm glad to be proved wrong.

While it seem like reputation building, he is still a lucky guy to have 800btc.

Notice the difference between being poor and being rich? When a rich person makes a horrible, costly mistake, they get their lawyers to straighten things out and everything turns out great. When a poor person makes a horrible costly mistake, fuck 'em.

Dude, did you just say that Bitcoin is no different than...

Next stop, a governing body whose sole purpose is to make such corrections (sans lawyers) in the block chain and the nodes will be forced to include them, otherwise...

He was lucky he sent the 800btc to a known entity. If he sent them to another address, he would probably never see those again.
Even though it was known where the coins were sent to, this fact would not guarantee that he would receive the coins back. As far as the protocol is concerned once you send coins to an address, the person who controls the private keys to that address "owns" the coins
