Title: What would stop a Satoshi imposter?
Post by: Godye Sclaro X9 on July 06, 2014, 11:13:19 AM
Since Satoshi is an anonymous figure, what would stop someone from claiming to be Satoshi and then developing a new altcoin? Of course, if people think that Satoshi was the coin's developer then a lot of people will flock to the new coin. Perhaps it won't replace Bitcoin entirely but it could easily jump to #2 without any innovative features or technology behind it. Just the name would be enough. The Satoshi imposter could claim that he lost access to his old account or even his PGP signature and there would be no way to prove otherwise since he'd still be anonymous.

He had lots of accounts and a gpg signature that were known to be controlled by him so people could simply ask for verification that way.

The media would not ask for it.  Not that I want to give anyone any ideas, if someone came forward not many outside of this community would question their claims.

if he can proof that he is satoshi and he would do this, we would end with one more VC. maybe he invented Litecoin  ;)

The very first few block rewards belong to satoshi. He could prove his identity by moving those coins which have yet to be spent.
