Title: can't reply to posts
Post by: ritchgee68 on July 07, 2014, 03:16:46 AM
Whenever I try to post a reply I get "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later. " .....but I didn't post anything

login, sending a pm and searching (not the search via google) also count toward that timer. See Newbie readme in beginners & help for more info

Exactly.

OP, you need to wait for a full 6 minutes before making your posts.
You have to bear with that posting limit for a while, until you get 15 activity and the time limit will be lowered to just 75 seconds.

Are you using a VPN or any sort-of proxy?

As others have stated, almost everything you do on the forum resets the timer.  While it sucks now, the timer will lower as your activity level increases. When you get to Full Member I believe it drops to 10 seconds. Whatever it is, I don't even notice it anymore.

Why almost everyday threads like this one appears? There is a fixed topic on this thread explaining timers and member ranks:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0)

Also the newbie readme(appealing name for a newbie to read):

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0)

I think the 6 min interval between posts is a good oportunity to take a look on the fixed topics

They need to bring back newbie jail, or something similar.  If it's not this question, it's a question regarding activity.  Perhaps there is a way to implement a test when signing up, one that requires new users to read those threads to be able to pass the test.  It would eliminate a lot of useless topics around here.

If a mod is reading this, is this something that could be possible to implement?

Some sort of test seems a bit overkill to me and would put a lot of new signups off. Not every newb posts the same crap questions and in the wrong forum. I think the majority of people favour the newbie jail option though. It was a great quarantine for junk posts and spambots etc, now that stuff gets frittered all over the forum.

Maybe it is a bit of an overkill, but perhaps there is a way to make sure they have to read the posts and agree that they read them before they were let out of jail, so to speak.

I know most people ignore terms and conditions and/or board rules when they click yes that they have read them for pretty much everything.  Just thought maybe a question or two would make them more inclined to read them.

Congrats on the Sr. Member status btw.  Sig looks good!

As you are a still newibe.. you have to wait for some time here on forum and have to post daily as your problem is 360 seconds after your first post you have to wait 360 seconds must to post.. its about 6 minutes and its a big times.. as soon as you get to jr member you dont have to wait.. or at least activity of 28 that can be achieved in first two weeks you got 14+ bonus activity .. so wait and post daily .. then you dont have to wait that long..

While you are also a newbie, your time limit is just 62seconds with 28 activity; OP's limit is 360s with <=14 activity. :)
