Title: Graphics card
Post by: MagicSata on March 10, 2012, 04:14:33 PM
Is the 6870 worth it to mine BTC with?

I know it is a old card now with the 7xxx series out but I am a poor guy D:

I'm looking for something semi-powerful I can use to mine with while I am not gaming but also something that is good for gaming.

Finding a 5830 isn't easy anymore, let alone for $100. You might find them second hand, but factory new 5830s are rare im affraid:(

If you do wanna buy some second hand cards, look up 5830 (300 mhash/s), 5850 (345 mhash/s), 5870(390 mhash/s) and 5970 (700 mhash/s)

I would also recommend the 5830 cards.  I got one from Ebay for about $110. It is a pretty efficient card to mine with IMO.

I could be convinced to sell my (2) 5830s for $100 each plus shipping costs.  These cards were never over volted and were never left overclocked for more than a few hours.  PM me if interested.

If you want some side mining while you game, grab some 5770d. They are cheap ($65 if you shop around), take 1 6pin per card, fan replacement is EASY on non-ref cards, and they get about 200mhs.
Lately this seems to be the card of choice for dual mode machines. You could play a game on your 68XX, toss in 3 5770s and get 600+Mhs for about $200, and then flip on your 68XX when your not gaming to get close to 1ghs.
