Title: cgminer solo: will -btc-address work for other coins? What should it be instead?
Post by: somatic on July 08, 2014, 06:20:31 PM
When I try to mine solo with BFGminer I have no problems, but CGminer gives me this message:

Quote
No BTC address specified, unable to mine solo on http://myserver.net:38532

I plugged in an address using the --btc-address flag and it seems to be working. But seeing as it could be a while before I discover a block, it'll be a while before I know. The coin is OpenSourceCoin, if that matters, though I mine all kinds of sha256 coins solo; I just started using cgminer instead of BFG because it supports Rockminers better.

CG Miner is Bitcoin only.  It doesn't mine any altcoins since 3.7.2 I believe and those older versions only solo mined with getwork protocol.

Crap. I assumed it would work on any sha256.

Thanks for telling me before I wasted any more time on it today. Looks like it'll have to be BFG. I like it more anyway, but for some reason, it has issues with Rockminers.

Any sha256 should work it's just that officially only bitcoin is supported.

So the --btc-address flag can be used with any coin, then?

Pretty much, just use the same command.
