A dream for some, reality for others
Simple question: when will you be able to retire?  ;D

If I don't lose my coins, I think it's possible at 32000 USD. I live a moderate life, nothing fancy. I think it is possible in the next 5 years for sure!  ;D

You shouldn't dream of retirement, you should dream of a job (still better go and find one) that would let you forget about retirement! ;)

IF I did everything right (which is unlikely) and leveraged like a madman, $25,000 USD.  I have my eye on a $4M penthouse condo on the beach, and need money left over for hookers, blow and to pay monthly bills.  If the price stays down, I will keep buying though, so it might get down to $20,000.

You did mention the word "dream."  ;D

Wrong way to look at things for bitcoin investment.

Stability is the key for wider adaptation.

512 000,  Although I wouldn't "retire".  I'd buy a golf course or something.  I'd start a busniess maybe buy out my friend from his company and build houses.

100k would do it. If the price doesn't get too crazy high over the next 12 months or so I will have an adequate amount of coins by the end of 2015 to just sit and wait for the price to go vertical.

I see Australia is considering retirement age at 70 now. So the higher the value of bitcoins, the quicker the retirement age.

Hope you not pushing all your pension hopes on one entity {bitcoins}  :'(

I guess I will "retire" when I can't get a job anymore, don't know when that will be. I would have more time to spend on my hobbies and may be even start a business. I will still have my bitcoin, and they are going to be worth $1 million each (yeah right :D).

anyone here under 40 will never retire. Over the coming decade or so, social security/medicaid liabilities will reach such a staggering liability and taxes on workers will reach such levels that there will be nothing left to save and the economy will all but be destroyed by the time we reach the age.

Or they will come up with something like immortality instead of retirement plans (and time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Time) will become a new money). Which would you choose? :)

The young usually vote with their feet. Entitlement benefit will need to be reduce eventually.

The barriers to exiting the US permanently are all ready somewhat high. Many that have the money to do so will undoubtedly leave but the vast majority of people won't have a choice. This will exacerbate the entitlement problem. We have whole generations being born to debts that they never voted for or agreed to.

the question is when you will be ABLE to retire. The discussion about early retirement is something else ;)

I personally want to "retire" early from a day job and spend my time on bitcoin/crypto/decentralizing/libertarian education/reading/activism/etc :)

a great book is this (I don't agree with everything in it):
Early Retirement Extreme (http://myreader.toile-libre.org/uploads/My_515606ffeb932.pdf) by Jacob L. Fisker

When will I be able to retire?

My best guess is that it will not have much of anything to do with my bitcoin holdings.

If it does, that will mean that I had more buying opportunities somewhere between now and The Moon.  So I guess I would need a drop and then a significant jump.
