We are here to make sure the general public, community members and casual miners always have access to the the most socst effective and highest performance mining kit available for the purpose of making sure we don't get attacked by ninja launches of equipment that threatens the decentralization of the Uro network.

I've started asking around what a liquid-cooled X11 FPGA system would cost, based on the Wasp collective datatank design (https://bitcointa.lk/threads/the-wasp-project-collective-information-thread.240650/page-12), as well as asked a few questions about ASIC development cost to efabless (https://www.efabless.com/).

So the first requirement is some Verilog code (ideally under a GPL license, with option for commercial licensing) that correctly implements the X11 hash (https://github.com/uro-/uro/blob/master/src/hashblock.h).

For either of these, I could probably handle the development risk myself if someone can deliver 12,500 tons of Urea to a US ship-to-rail transload port, and sometime between 6 and 24 months later I expect I'd have hardware running.

But the more important question here is what kind of interest is there in the community for X11/Uro mining hardware, and is there a long-term commitment from the Uro foundation members to stick with X11 as the hash algorithm.

Hozer: we will commit to X11 as long as no more than 3 of the 11 algorithms are compromised - or the community overwhelmingly votes to change.

My personal opinion is that getting on ASICs == long term stability - because once the ASICs get to the smallest node we know there is not going to be some ninja hash popping up out of nowhere to fork the Uro blockchain.

If I get sufficient interest on this forum that I think I have buyers to cover some of the initial design cost, *or someone provides working verilog code*, I will offer http://7el.us/XELASIC/ for sale on counterparty, and we will start the design of the first open-source hardware cryptocoin mining ASIC crowdfunded with blockchain technology.

I'm not sure. How about we start with a poll or something on this thread to gauge interest. This is going to be a $5million to $25million project, and I do not want to have anyone collecting funds until there is better information.

The only thing tangible I could do at this point would be a feasibility study, and that would cost between $2500 and $10k USD depending on the quality and detail involved.

At this point the best thing is find some engineers or students know verilog/vhdl and implement a testbench of the X11 algorithm and release it under AGPLv3

If anyone knows how to combine the code together to run on a ASIC, we should crowdfund some FPGA eval boards and start experimenting.

To get that performance with GPUs you needs 2 x 5 GPU GTX750Ti rigs pulling about 350W each. So this FPGA board is already 100%+ more energy efficient.

Yep. And from what I see looking at timestamps for the uro blocks (and when p2pool seems to pay out), it looks like the FPGA miners and/or thousand-or more gpu farms have perfected the art of exploiting KGW. Some code and tools at https://bitbucket.org/dahozer/blockparser

I'd estimate that doing an open-source FPGA X11 miner would cost between $25,000 and $150,000.

But I think I could probably do it for 25,000 Uro, which would do two things:
a) increase Uro price cause I'd hold half of it
b) give me a reason to publicly document ordering a shipload of Urea for Uro to a US port ;)
