Title: Just saw an overstock.com commercial on TV...
Post by: Xian01 on July 11, 2014, 01:28:04 AM
They clearly had a "We accept Bitcoin" logo displayed underneath the Overstock lettering.

Awesome, their CEO is clearly a crazy bitcoin bull. I'll take it. Too bad I'm not a huge fan of their site, but one of these days I'll find a reason to spend some coin on there...

Bitcoin - it's everywhere your bank can't be - open on Holidays, weekends, hours other than just 9-5 bank hours, available worldwide...

It doesn't even matter if they're doing this just to jump on the band wagon and try to get some attention by profiting from the media frenzy that surrounds bitcoin from time to time bubble to bubble. It helps getting bitcoin's name out there and that's everything that counts... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mere-exposure_effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mere-exposure_effect)

Yeah this just seems a way to push the banks to accepting it because the large companies see know reason not to accept it and conduct their business.  I'm not sure how much revenue Bitcoin will bring Overstock right now but as time progresses I'd suspect there to be some serious growth in adoption of customers using BTC.

What would be wrong with that? But why do you think so, I just can't seem to see any causality or even correlation with that?

I've never seen a Overstock commercial before. I'm guessing they just hate some parts of countries?

I've also never ordered from them, but knew they accepted Bitcoin and have checked out their site. Really nothing I could use right now, but I might buy something in the future.

Patrick Byrne, Overstock CEO was the Keynote speaker at the Bitcoin 2014 Conference in Amsterdam in May earlier this year.

If you haven't heard his keynote address - he will blow you away with his historical and philosophical background:

 Part II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcs2681mUSA

He is more than a bitcoin pioneer and supporter - he is walking the walk against corruption - the guy is for real.
