Title: Afternoon in downtown San Francisco - PayPal but no bitcoin
Post by: TooDumbForBitcoin on July 11, 2014, 05:42:33 AM
Extremely small sample size.

I walked a total of 5 miles near Moscone Center in San Francisco the last two days.  I saw half a dozen signs on the street and in shop windows to the effect:  "Pay with your phone via PayPal".  One even said, "no cash or credit cards accepted.  We only take PayPal".

But no bitcoin signs.

I watched a ball game in a cozy well run sports bar near 2nd and Howard.  The bartender had never heard of bitcoin.

PS:  Just checked the scores on www.sportsline.com.  The broswer ad was for "paying digitally with Paypal".

Maybe they are Too Dumb For Bitcoin ::)
just kidding :P
without doubt, paypal is more popular and has more mass adaptation than bitcoin
but this is for now, maybe next year you will find "bitcoin accepted here" sign in same road ;D
that will happen if bitcoin mass adaptation is success
bitcoin has more advantage than paypal!
we can see many people complaining about paypal fee here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596509.0

Yeah, I've been seeing more brick and mortar businesses accepting Paypal and Square. Not super pleased with it from a bitcoiner perspective. But it may actually warm people up to the idea of making mobile payments all the time.... bitcoin's only a step away. :)

That is exactly why paypal integration of bit coin would be a big deal. I am no fan of paypal and would never use them, but integrating bit coin puts a large segment of people one step away from bit coin.

Yep get them to think mobile payments are fine and then start penetrating that market as an alternative low cost retailer
All's fair in the competition world :P (As in let Paypal do all the work) Then ride the tailcoats and replace them with merchants by promoting lower costs and faster transactions hehe
