Post by: RedGummyBear on July 11, 2014, 03:09:40 PM
Can you send a Request payment to a BTC address like sending them a bill with your wallet?
For example can i send request for XXX BTC to Address  1XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Is this possible or do i have to give the sender my Address via PM or Email?

Not sure if it has that feature but I'd like to have such feature for merchants. And probably setting up recurring too.

There is an option in the wallet to Request payment. when you click it it creates a popup with my wallet address and amount but i'm trying to figure out how to send it to any specified BTC Address.  There must be a way.

Thats just a way to generate a QR code for someone else. Youd have to send the picture. The other person can scan it and has your address as well as the amount to pay.

Sending a payment request to a certain address makes no sense IMHO. Do you really care from which of the (e.g.) 243 addresses the other person controlls come from? Most people that use a bitcoin wallet do not even know in advance which address will be the one the coins come from.

as shorena mentioned, it makes no sense from where the payment comes from, as BTC addresses can be generated very easily and most people tend to have multiple addresses for the sake of security.

But, if you would still like to request payment, i think coinbase android/iPhone app has a feature where you can request payment. it is not recurring though. and you will have to send the other person a screenshot of your QR code for them to scan it. too much time consumed here :(

The multibit software wallet along with the blockchain.info web wallet both allow you to request payment to a specific address along with a requested amount.

Just imagine the spam if such a thing would get implemented. The current way, by generating a QR code is working great. The QR code is generated, then the person who wants to requests the payment can send it by any means of his choosing, from email to printing it on a business card.

Don't feel stupid, or sorry for posting it. We all have bad or wrong ideas, no worries. Realising they were wrong and why makes us smarterer :).

Well, I don't think you can delete your thread. You can check the bottom left of the page, or simply delete your posts.
You could report your OP to a the moderators... but I don't think they'll delete it, maybe just move it someplace.

But why delete? This thread might help others understand a couple of things.

All the addresses that have large amounts of bitcoin would receive massive amounts of payment requests, kind of like the opposite of all the spam they receive now in the form of the small TXs they receive.

This would also create a number of potential attacks on users of people impersonating actual vendors that people actually want to do business with.

Reporting the post to mod doesn't work since it isn't classified as abusive or wrongly posted post. However, you can leave a comment but it may not work.

If you request payment, it will generate a QR code, which can include the amount of BTC to be sent and the address. It is very convenient for physical shops as they do not require time to slowly type out everything.

Blockchain.info has an option where you can do that. Visit your addresses' page and click on request payment:

https://blockchain.info/address/1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE

Apart from this you can create a bitcoin: link:

pay me (bitcoin:1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE) (NOT!)

Edit: Sorry I misread your question. You can't send the request to another person's BTC address I'm afraid. Closest thing is to make a public note on blockchain.info but it will only show up on that site and everyone can see it!
