Hackers can take their sweet time trying to break into your gmail or drop box account to steal your wallet. Then they only need to bruteforce your password. OTOH, if your wallet only exists on your PC, and perhaps a backup on a removable drive, then the hacker has to target your personally. Last I checked home PCs did not usually serve files to the general public so there are fewer avenues for attack. Title: Re: How to backup an bitcoin wallet in ubuntu? Post by: J.frank on July 16, 2014, 02:52:13 PM Hi guys, i do have encrypted the dat file with strong password and have renamed the file name to an odd one, then i moved it to a pretty deep direction in another computer. Wish it is enough.
Thanks for all again. PS, as you have known, this .dat file is backuped from a machine using ubuntu, could i restart this wallet in windows? Title: Re: How to backup an bitcoin wallet in ubuntu? Post by: RodeoX on July 16, 2014, 02:58:10 PM In Ubuntu your wallet.dat file is in a hidden folder named ".bitcoin". That hidden folder is in your "home" folder. Simply make a copy of that file and store it safely. I recommend making a few copies. One for the safe deposit box, another mailed to your Aunt who lives a 1000 miles away, and an encrypted copy buried in a graveyard or something.
