I'm running it 24/7 and on AWS. Some of those pools may disappear, mine won't.

Plus they would need to make sure their bitcoind and p2pool maintain good p2p connections or mining will slow or stop when blocks change.

Its recommended to open 9333 to get incoming connections but it still works with only outgoing. Try mine out while you get yours setup.
I've only made 100 NMC so far so I'm not making anything with this but it's fun and I like the community and supporting P2Pool.
