Title: How to recover wallet backup without downloading whole block chain
Post by: GideonGono on March 15, 2012, 09:12:49 AM
Hi,

I have a backup with coins in it that I need but rescanning the block chain is taking ages and is going at snails pace right now. Is there a way (alt client maybe?) to recover these coins without having to wait for the entire block chain?

Thanks

1. export all your private keys
2. create an Electrum wallet
3. import your keys there

Thanks for the quick response. I have a follow up question:

1. export all your private keys

How?

3. import your keys there

And how?

*I read somewhere that Bitcoin 0.6 can export keys using the command line. See http://keepyourassets.net/2011/12/23/1551/
there is also use a tool called pywallet that does it
*to import keys in Electrum: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Electrum#Export_and_import_addresses
