Description: Bitcoin.org is considering looking for a new sponsor. By sponsoring Bitcoin.org your website or business will be promoted at the footer of the website (where the Bitcoin Foundation logo is currently placed). The slot won't be shared with others and the minimum purchase time is 6 months. We aren't interested in working with certain types of services, these include porn sites, gambling sites, large mining pools, anything altcoin related, and suspicious services of low quality.

Traffic statistics: The site receives roughly between one million to two million unique visitors per month. On certain days when Bitcoin is featured heavily in the media, we can get a very large amount of visitors. For example the Newsweek situation had us pushing 200,000 unique visitors in the span of 24 hours. The traffic is largely made up of new users who are interested in Bitcoin and come to learn more about it and get involved. By purchasing the slot you are likely to be the first Bitcoin related "brand" or service they see. You are also likely to experience significant SEO improvements as you will have your site linked to by Bitcoin.org on every page of the site.

Where your money will be spent: The money you use to sponsor Bitcoin.org will go towards the following: design improvements, server fees, rewarding valued volunteers, translation improvements and stuff of that nature. You will be directly funding improvements on one of the most important resources to the Bitcoin community.

I think people from Bitcoin Foundation are not poor ... but perhaps wealthy, isn't?

:) I though that for them few BTCs is not enough to keep Bitcoin.org nicely developed ... :)


Anyway, good luck with finding someone who will help you and Bitcoin.org - I am out of money and hardly trying to manage founds for my own web sites (like btc-embassy.com) - so I dunno how to help....

But don't worry, AFAIK the Foundation is wiling to renew the sponsorship, we're just taking a look for alternatives.

For example, perhaps this sponsorship can be useful to some business in the space or bring some more money in the ecosystem, and allow the Foundation to spend more money on stuff that is generally harder to fund like open-source development, lobbying, etc.

Maybe one day I will be able to pay for it :D but it seems a lot of money anyway ....

There are many wealthy Bitcoiners around so perhaps someone will consider to contribute with his BTCs.

So ... for me it is like a cradle.  Next one was Bitcoin.pl which I believe is not donated enough by Bitcoiners too...

WeUseCoins and bitcoin.org are two completely separate projects. I'll send you a private message to keep this thread focused on the sponsorship.

I have mid 4 figures for 3 months just to see if it works out, That is if you are cool with a betting site as a sponsor.

Yet the foundation is a extremely low quality and is made up of suspicious services... Why the hate against these services? I mean Erik ran a gambling site, and he turned out to be a good person. Bitcoin is for everyone, but yet the domain doesn't support these services, that bitcoin gave new life to some of them.

Does sirius still own this domain? I really hope someone other than the greedy bitcoin foundation has this domain.

I don't hold a grudge against the types of services I listed in my original post. It's just not possible to get a change pushed through the Github repository in which the slot is occupied by one of those types of services.

I don't think the bitcoin foundation controls bitcoin.org, I thought that I read that either coinbase or bitpay controls the domain (I forget which)

Blockchain.info owns bitcoin.com, this is for bitcoin.org, which was owned by sirius but sadly I think has been moved to the foundation's hands.

I think bitcoin.org is not owned by foundation. If it were, this thread would not have been created for a sponsorship that would replace foundation itself.

By the way, I wonder, why they are not using adsense, buysellads or other interesting programs, if monetization is required.

Adsense may not be appropriate for such.
maybe the .org should have their own forum so they can monetize themselves.

Why take away from what you are built on?

Those suspicious services wont take bitcoin to mainstream and those are not what bitcoin is only based on. Bitcoin.org perates as the face of Bitcoin (oh I know Bitcoin is faceless). So they cant promote some low quality services. Leave them for BitcoinTalk ;)

I can understand suspicious low quality services, but porn, gambling and altcoin (such as NMC not others) seem like they should have a crack at it.

Hell, I think Bitcoin is best for porn and that is a huge industry.  I expect to see more "mainstream" porn sites going BTC.  

Looks to me like bitcoin.org wants to push BTC to minors. (Which is fine in my eyes... Kid cash spends the same as grown up cash!)

I guess I can see it from their point of view though. Guess I'm SOL on sponsoring.  Probably could use the Snail site.
