Title: In a perfect world we wouldn't need Bitcoin
Post by: neptop on March 16, 2012, 07:19:31 PM
To begin with: I love Bitcoin. I think it is desperately needed.

However, I think in a perfect world, one humanity may or may not be able to create one wouldn't need it. It would become dormant. I if we can reach it, we are at least extremely far from it and would consider Bitcoin at least an important tool for now.

Do you agree?

I think money is going to exist regardless of how "perfect" the world is. I would like that money to be as "perfect" as possible, which is why I am a big fan of Bitcoin.
That's where I lean. Bitcoin (or something similarly convenient & secure) is part of my "perfect world."

I agree that in a perfect world we wouldn't need bitcoin or currency,
but whether that perfect world can be created is another matter.

But I also think bitcoin is helping society into its natural stateless classless state

I think a perfect world would have to be 100% post-scarcity, so we wouldn't need any medium of exchange. People would just share and help each other out of kindness.

Why do you say classes are unnatural? Other primates have "classes" (social hierarchy) too, albeit less extreme than human classes.

To have perfection, one must have something of opposite to compare to. Once can not have only something good.

A perfect money driven world will be when we are happy to sell our children when we grow tired of them. When everything has it's price, what will anything be worth?

If we're in a perfect world, we wouldn't need any form of currency and money at all.

In a perfect world I would be so rich all the money in the bitcion network would be like spare change to me. So i voted it would not be needed, at least not by me :D

Duality: If everything is perfect, then there is no such thing as perfect. If everything is yellow, then what is yellow?

A stateless society would be great though ;-) hopefully Bitcoin will get us closer.

Currency is there to solve a technical difficulty. It's a good solution, but not a perfect one. It provides a one dimensional value which all values need to be projected to. Furthermore, depending on your definition of the perfect world, there might not even be the technical difficulty to begin with, but if so, it's probably not even a utopia. :)

Kindness doesn't tell you whether to send the eggs to Dallas or Houston.

I'm talking about a fictional perfect world. Dallas and Houston can just replicate their own eggs or whatever.

To all who weren't sure about what perfect is. Well, that's on purpose. I hoped I'd get an insight on what people consider perfect and get some interesting discussions. :D
