Title: [ANN][XCN] Cryptonite - elegant & anonymous payments based on CryptoNote
Post by: Cryptonite XCN on July 18, 2014, 02:49:16 PM

Cryptonite XCN (http://xcryptonite.org) is the new software for completely anonymous and untraceable transactions

Based on CryptoNote (https://cryptonote.org)'s ring signatures and one-time addresses Cryptonite XCN marks a new step in CryptoNote's development being the most elegant GUI wallet and miner among all the currencies. Cryptonite focuses on providing the users with the smartest and easiest way to make completely anonymous payments. With CryptoNote's block chain analysis resistance, Cryptonite is the most secure solution for untraceable and unlinkable transactions.

However, Cryptonite team didn't wish to start yet another currency and instead focused on delivering intelligent software that will be implemented on top of various CryptoNote currencies.

Bytecoin was a fucking stupid name because it was already taken, and also because it sounds too similar to Bitcoin.

Cryptonite is a fucking stupid name because the PoW is already called Cryptonight (https://github.com/cryptonotefoundation/cryptonote/blob/master/src/crypto/hash.h#L27) and because bitfreak! already released something called Cryptonite (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=643758.0).

So you're planning to implement it on top of various CryptoNote currencies, but Bytecoin is the only one avaliable. When other cryptocurrencies gonna be added?

If you actually want to help I suggest consider helping out the Monero team.

Wait what?! a newbie account asking you to send coins to a newer address. Well if this turns sour, anyone doing it will deserve it.

Maybe they should rethink their strategy?

I have to respectfully request that you change the name and currency code of this coin. As mentioned by rethink-your-strategy, I am a week away from releasing a coin called Cryptonite, nearly 4 months has been been spent on development and it took us a long time to come up with a decent name which wasn't already taken. We have been publicly testing Cryptonite for a long time and we claimed the name and the currency code way before you announced this coin. So please, don't be a douche.

Your use of that name is also questionable and likely to lead to confusion because the PoW function for the Cryptonote family of coins is also called CryptoNight. That has been the case since at least March when these coins began to surface, if not earlier. The white paper is dated from October.

The name is not that big of a deal actually. What is more important is that people finally started creating soft, or at least trying to.

Yeah, who the hell needs number 1500 currency clone when our soft is... let's say far from perfect?! Dude made a nice wallet, useful thing, he can use whatever name he wants.

We respect your project and your claim for the currency name. We're likely to change "Cryptonite" to a different (but more or less alike) name. I have to discuss this issue with the team, but I don't think it's going to be a problem. However, I couldn't find anywhere the currency code that you wanted for your coin. We'd like to keep this code as we are building something huge on top of all CryptoNote currencies, which is brilliantly underpinned by XCN code.

As you are about to launch a coin, we could assist you on our side with what you might require. Since both of our teams came up with the same name it is likely that we think alike, which could help our collaboration move faster. We're working on beautiful GUI client at the moment, but our final goal is much broader that this. Would you like to discuss how we could be useful to each other?

Please try to make it reasonably different, there are already enough things close to cryptonite.

It might not be written in the thread but if you download the test client you will see it uses XCN, and it has been using XCN for many weeks now. There's no reason you should require that exact currency code.

I would of been interested, then I saw you said you're going to use the BCN sourcecode...which is plain shitty compared to moneros or boolberries updated sourcecode.

By mid-august we're going to launch the wallet, so I believe alpha testing will start in a couple of weeks.

So you're planning to implement it on top of various CryptoNote currencies, but Bytecoin is the only one avaliable. When other cryptocurrencies gonna be added?

Our 1.0 release is likely to support several CryptoNote currencies, including Monero, Boolberry, DuckNote, and Quazarcoin.

Please try to make it reasonably different, there are already enough things close to cryptonite.

Surely, our goal is not confusion.

The name Cryptonite is already taken by another project featuring mini-blockchain scheme (and has nothing related to CryptoNote):

      Cryptonotun  (NTC)
      Cryptonoun   (NUC)
      Krypton         (KRC)

Always forward, like diversity in earth as many coins, by trial and error, only survive  the more efficient and strong.
CryptoNote is a new concept, will or will not be good? only impartial judge "time" cleared up.

Agree with Smooth that the use of "cryptonite'' is really questionable, it even made me feel confused cause ''cryptonite'' sounds the same as ''cryptonight''. And when I've met with a coin (cryptonite) it was in a dialogue with my friend about BCN.

Probably. never. Because people here can't handle the discussion and eventually they turn it into a holy damn war.

I would honestly be very surprised if guys post anything.

I notice you have registered the domain xcryptonite.org, but two coins with the same name is too confusing. It would not cost much to register a new domain and change the coin's name to something different.
