Title: [ANN] Bitcoin Political party and candidate...time to [un]make the regulation.
Post by: jubalix on July 18, 2014, 10:54:00 PM
Isn't it about time we were making/repealing the regulation?

Existing political candidates see the potential of BTC to fund them, yet we as a community seem to have no political party or candidate?

This thread is to develop

  • a party,
  • platform,
  • strategic jurisdiction to run in
  • candidates.
  • funding

getting elected candidates in means deals can be brokered, even just running sends a message.

Essentially we need a candidate(s) and political party to run for a legislature , either lower or upper house. Register party. Select candidate.

The party needs to have its policy set out which is kinda pre written in this forum.

Run in a  high profile jurisdiction like NYC state level or if you want federal.

Whatever legislature this regulation NYC guy's works for would be good.

At that point your independent can be BTC funded.

deals can then be brokered and BTC is the boss of regulation.

given the right platform...there is enough BTC out there to really fund our political party.

if successful BTC wins....rinse repeat in other jurisdictions.

I nominate Goat, Mircea, Smoothie, Finshaggy and Dank for the campaign managers  8)

Kid I think its a good idea but it would probably work best in countries with Proportional representation
Hard to win seats in a majoritarian first past the post electoral system.

Party Motto
This is crypto with an attitude, best embodied by the group's moniker: Bitcoiners

In regards to the Platform
Crytoanarchist and Cypherpunk

Privacy is necessary for an open society in the electronic age. ...
We cannot expect governments, corporations, or other large, faceless organizations to grant us privacy ...
We must defend our own privacy if we expect to have any. ...
Cypherpunks write code. We know that someone has to write software to defend privacy, and ... we're going to write it. .

Privacy platform
That's the kind of society I want to build. I want a guarantee -- with physics and mathematics, not with laws -- that we can give ourselves real privacy of personal communications

Strategic Jurisdicition
MMP or PR Systems

Candidates
Elwar, Organofcorti, Dooglus etc.

Funding
Crowdfunding, Swag, Island capital (Elwar)

What other issues will you stand on? It'll be hard to start a new, successful party on a Bitcoin platform alone. The bigger issues of money/finance, privacy, business, and/or freedom should be addressed as well.

Of course, the Libertarian Party is already Bitcoin friendly. Unless there are other values in the LP that you're against, why not just support them?

I'm guessing the OP likes variety
Technically if you combined the Pirate Party, The Wikileaks party, The Libertarian Party, and the Bitcoin Party (In theory)
There would probably be a significant overlap.

Perhaps trying to get different organizations and political parties to fuse together to make a more powerful party and platform would work as well.

i don't think a bitcoin political party is very uh.. feasible. there's not enough money going around to support candidates, and i'm not sure why a "bitcoin party" should even exist. maybe a bitcoin lobbying group though.. that makes a lot more sense.

As long as we don't call it the Bitcoin Foundation  ;)
We had enough fun the first time with that don't want to see a 2.0 lol.

Well too late actually looks like we just got one

The Chamber of Digital Commerce announced itself on Saturday at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Chicago. The group is registered as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit, which allows it to act as a lobbyist, and is being led by Perianne Boring, a former journalist and Congressional staffer. It has early backing from RRE Ventures and Tally Capital, which are leading a seed-round of fund raising.

The group’s goal is to “legitimize” the digital currency in the eyes of D.C. policy-makers, and to provide a place where they can get “non-biased” information.

Not sure how you think we can outbribe the regulatory capture motherfuckers. We don't have hundreds of trillions of dollars.

Yeah that is a tall mountain to climb. Maybe targeting the few truly honest ones would be best early on. If we get a nice rise in market cap we could compete but that is a ways off.

Politicians are funny things, they only want to talk to you when you are running against them....then they want to cut deals, otherwise you are a no body
